So you say you want some free tools?

I have been thinking of an idea and wanted to share it with all of you to get some feedback. While I was shooting the Titan video, I started to think of how great it would be for all of you to shoot videos also. What do you think about a monthly contest where we ask installers to submit videos talking about a specific tool. At the end of the month, we select the winner, upload their video on the Zola Distributing site on that item page and give the top 3 video submissions some free Zola Dollars to spend on the website. I think that this would be cool, allow all of you to be involved and potentially win some free stuff. I know that most of you likely do not want to only see me babble on about these tools anyway.

So, what do you think? Give me some feedback and let me know if you would be interested. I will start working out all the details if people are interested.

How much money are we talking about??

I am not positive yet. It would likely not be a ton. Maybe like $100 to the monthly winner, $50 for second and $25 for third. You would be able to shoot the video with any basic camera and it does not need to be fancy. I was thinking 3 minutes max. I think that it would be fun and I am sure the submissions would be great. Maybe we could even set up a site that all videos could be seen and voted on by the community. I am just brainstorming at this point.

I like the idea, but think it will suit better if shot USING the tool and not just talking about it.

Good idea, the tool review vids could all be posted/embedded here and then voted on each week with a courtesy link to Zola and other distributors who sell them to make it fair.

Not sure how much participation there might be but it's worth a try. I'm not real crazy about making this a promotion tool exclusively for Zola, and judging by some PM's neither are the members.

i for one wouldn't be interested in making any videos. or for that matter, watching i might check a couple out i guess....but the fact is, the majority of us have been doing this long enough to know how to use any of these tools. and any new tools released lately are actually modified older tools that we've been using for a while anyway. these videos are only gonna benefit the newbie looking to learn how to tint on the internet and patric and zola, who are trying to sell the tools.

I was actually planning to do it on the Zola Distributing website. I did not want to ask you to use this as a promotional site for Zola Distributing. That is why I was proposing to do this as a Zola Distributing program with the prizes being Zola Dollars that can be used on the site.

Thats cool Blade. I respect where you are coming from on that. I was just thinking that it might be interesting to get some takes on how all of you are using the tools. I agree that this may benefit the new guy a bit more, but it can also help anybody make an educated decision on the various offerings. I am thinking of videos like the one that I shot on the knives. I know from feedback that not everyone, even experienced tinters knew all the features, benefits and differences of all the knives available. Again, just trying to brainstorm to bring some good content to the industry and make it entertaining if possible.

I know from speaking with many of you at SEMA that not everyone in the industry knows all the details regarding the tools available. I also answer many questions on the site that let me know that many of you want to know more about the items offered. Again, just a suggestion that I wanted feedback on. Thanks for the feedback. Please keep it coming.

That is a good idea...Me hosing down glass with all sorts of different spray bottles, a corny tank, a fire hydrant.........

Put a filter on that hydrant and go to town

I have dealt with much rougher.

Now if you raise the top prize to like 1000 then I will shoot a vid as I would have to pay the tool models stripers aren’t cheap but they look good as long as you can get the new ones that are just starting out. Then I got to build a set and I am not cheap when I do things. And many other expenses like hair cut – director – and products maybe you can help me out on this part just send me 1 of everything you sell then I could make the vids cheaper as then I would do it for 100 so what do you think you want my address to sent all the tools to me.

The strippers may play well in this industry. I know at SEMA the popular booth have just this side of strippers working in them

Time is money, and some free tools in exchange does not seem quite equal.
Now, if he was willing to pay CASH (at a decent rate per hour) for time and production costs, then I might even be interested.
