Cutting of trim required?

I have a 2009 G37 Sedan and I got my windows tinted at a pretty well known and professional spot in my area. They are owner operated and have many years of experience. The question I have for you guys is in the rear windows (The small ones on the rear doors that do not open), they trimmed some of the fuzzy rubber strip away at the bottom of the glass. He said that for some cars, this is too tight and can't get the tint in there. Is this actually an industry practice or did they mess up and cut my trim accidentally and decide to cut the whole thing to even it out and give me some BS? BTW - They use computer cut Llumar tints so I would think that the fit should be proper and cutting of any kind should not be required. Driver side rear. Its more noticeable in these pics from the passenger side rear door.

thats normal, and nothing to be worried about. Lots of windows require trimming all the way around the window. Most mercedes and fusions/mkzs come to mind off the top of my head.
its done to prevent light gaps, because even the best cut tint has to be slightly back from the rubber in order for it to lay down flat, cutting a V helps hide this gap.
nothing to worry about. you COULD get the film in the bottom, but its easier and cleaner to just trim a little bit off

Its normal as long as the cuts are nice and clean. It makes for a cleaner install and wont cause any harm. If the rest of the install looks good I wouldnt worry at all.
Which Llumar film did you get installed?

A lot of tinters like to cut them but I want the car to leave the way it came in, only tinted.

Especially a G37, those aren't tight at all, the film should just slide right in... I don't cut any gaskets, unless it's old school, 60's or 70's ride I'll trim all the goo around the back, but thats about it..

Thanks for the piece of mind... Over in the G37 forums, i posed this question there and most remarks were for definitely no need to cut the rubber. It looked like the tint should have just been tucked under the gasket since it wasn't that tight looking to me.

I don't think it's a big deal as long as it's a clean straight cut and not excessive.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
