Full Version: new texas tint law sept 1
anyone see the official final law in print anywhere?I would like something to show customers.
Dont know if this is the official one but... http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Search/DocV...HighlightType=1
How do you change the link to say something else...like "texas bill"?
Gonna have to send that off to a lawyer so they can explain it to me. Ridiculous how laws are worded.
I am still confused about what windows require a legal sticker just driver, driver and passenger, all windows tinted?
Just so happens my Brother who is an Attorney is in town for this weekend, will ask him if he will loook at it and translate it.
From what I read, it does not apply to back windows or any window which is legally tinted, but requires 1 sticker to indicate the tint job is legal. If you look down to where it says (b) subsection (a) does not apply to: It appears to me 2/3 of this does not apply. Will see if my Brother can look at this and give his opinion. Are there any TX state Inspectors on here who ould also help with this ?
Got a letter from the iwfa about the legal sticker due to the confusion from the way the law actually reads. After there analysis they say it only has to be on the driver window. I will post the rest of the details of the letter monday

That would be cool to see what the iwfa say, thanks for that update. Are any of you tx tinters making any changes to your legal stickers?
My distributor has a simple translated statement that says you only have to have 1 sticker on either the driver, pass, or windsheild. The IWFA has released a statement saying/recommending the sticker be placed on the drivers window. NOTHING but the fine has changed. Up from $500 to $1000....thats it.
I am a certified state inspector, nothing has changed. Checking for a sticker is not inspectable, niether is any rear windows...just the two fronts, and that limit is 20%, not 25%. LEGISLATIVE ALERT
TEXAS To: Texas Manufacturers, Distributors, and Installers From: Darrell Smith, Executive Director Lynwood Butner, Legislative Consultant Date: August 28, 2009 Subject: Senate Bill 589 (House Bill 4523) Previous Alerts in March and July advised members of the legislation as signed into law and becoming effective on September 1, 2009. There have been a number of calls regarding the proper placement of labels and the information that should be provided on the label. We have been working with the very helpful Department of Public Safety staff and are providing the following information for our members. The label should be located on the “driver’s side window in the lower rearward corner.” The language contained in Section 547.609 A (3) and (4) can be interpreted to require that labels be installed on all windows, but the current policy for the labeling regulations only identifies the driver’s side window for compliance with the law. This policy will be re-evaluated, and there could be modifications in the future that would change the current regulation to specify a label in all windows where film was installed. The new law requires that language indicating full compliance with the law be included on the label. This language should read: Complies with TTC 547.613 (b) As an example, the label should include the following information: Solar Gard Window Films Complies with TTC 547.613 (b) Bekaert Specialty Films, LLC Many of our members, in order to meet the September 1 deadline, printed labels which referenced SEC. 547.613 (b) in order to be able to distribute the new labels in time for the law change. IWFA received tentative approval for this from the Texas Department of Public Safety. However, officials have indicated in the last several days that since TTC is more accurate, in the future, new labels should be printed using this uniform and correct terminology. In the meantime, members may use those already printed with the reference to SEC.547.613 (b) instead of TTC. It looks look you can now out darker on readoors on cars now like suv's
These windows are completely exempted from regulation under the Texas Transportation Code. Reference Legislation: Senate Bill 589 http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/Misc/faq/tint.htm
Mr.P- i had a lengthy argument with one of state inspecters this morning-and they claim that there is no +-3% anymore. Anything below 25% fails...i'm also waiting on a call from the state ...
