I've come across a dining room table (48"x80") 3/8 thick for 55 bucks.
Would this work for this type of application?
May be a stupid question...

Full Version: Glass for the wall...
I'm looking for a piece of glass to mount on the wall to finish up cutting and keep the film clean as possible.

Glass is glass, if it cheap and you can mount it on the wall, why not? With a stainless blade you are not going to scratch any glass. If you can use it and can afford it why not?

Chris i think it would work well for now...i have two pieces side by side that are 48 by 110. im useing a forty inch plotter so it works perfect....you can check out myspace videos to see what im speaking of. i woulnt mount it unless you get j-bar...thats the best way! Picking it up on Thursday!
Jeff,
Is this what you're talking about?? http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=155& The glass I'm looking at is double the size of the opening though. I like the idea of using that to mount, but the glass is 3/8 and the opening of the j-bar is 3/16. Any more ideas?? Mount a strip of treated wood about an inch thick by 2 inches deep against wall the full 80" across bottom for support and use mirror clips around eges to secure.
I recently found a 6 foot sliding glass door that someone recently replaced with atrium doors. I got it out of their way for $10. One for each side of the shop. I think it's a great option.

Any more ideas?? sorry i missed this post...its real simular but not what i was talking about...the one i was talking about has a higher back to it..i have a center block wall where i had to drill in to it and a red heads, then add to pieces or hard rubber in the j-bar to help with water drainage and to keep it from having metal to glass,,call them spacers... i found this sight.. http://www.bohle-america.com/shop/Mirror-a...gs:::76_77.html
i wouldnt hang any glass unless its laminated or tempered. bump into it the wrong way any you have a terrible, maybe fatal accident. i was in the glass business and i heard all kind of stories. when i get my shop set up, one day, i will have tempered frosted glass with some tube lights behind it. seen it once, and its perfect for tinting. lights up the entire sheet white and makes it alot easier on the eyes.
i would get in contact with a glass distributer and order 2 slinding patio door glasses. they are 2-3 standard sizes and usually instock so the prices are usually very good. and they are tempered. we had 4X8 sheets of glass at the shop i used to work at we tinted with matte white frost and put the lights behind it like snappy said... it looked nice but in my opinion the lights were just a look factor could've done without.

Also, if you have a reclaimation yard anywhere near you, they are a great place to find old storm doors and the such. Bought my last one from a local one here and gave $10 for a 34x76 tempered door.
