DIRECT LINE INSURANCE ALLEGED CLAMP DOWN ON REAR TINTS

Nik Sandars@Bonwyke
Anybody heard about the DIRECT LINE INSURANCE Company refusing to insure drivers under the age of 25 who tell them that their vehicles are tinted..

...but hang on
they are allegedly refusing to insure if they have tinted windows BEHIND the 'B' Posts now...nothing to do with any glass in front of the 'B' Posts?????

Is this something new...? Something only Direct Line are doing?

So any under 25 driver who has a car with factory tinted glass should not be insured either...?

Likewise they cannot be insured if they drive a van with no windows behind the 'B' Post...?

Anybody heard similar from other insurance companies or storys from their customers?

I havent heard anything about insurance companys not insuring a customer because of tints.I know they sometimes put the premium up or sometimes put it down because of a security enhancement. My fiancee works in insurance so i get kept up to date !!

I know a guy with a Fiesta ST, wanted his windows done, booked him in, then he told his insurance company about he was having the windows tinted, they wanted £1200 for it...

He was already payin £2800 for his insurance....

So they were going to insure him, but for a stupid price...

hi nik spoke to the guy yesterday he came to have is windows stripped had a few points on is licence had been quoteted£4000 +on ins direct line did it for around £ 2000 but had to have tints removed as it was a modification they will not ins under 25s who have vehicles modifie

We had finished an X5 B Pillar Back on a Saturday about 4 years ago.
Customer called direct line to inform them about having a 20% film BPB as per factory, direct line CANCELLED jerkit.gif their insurance on the spot.

I don't think direct lines attitude is anything to worry about, they just want unmodified vehicles on their books.

I know this is a bit of an old thread now but a lad on another forum i used has just asked me where to get a film that is a 30percent block out as his insurance wouldnt cover him if he got it any darker!
Solar-Shades
smack some 35% on there, subtles better anyway!

30 % block out equals 70% visible light transmission which is close to many standard factory tinted glass.
So any shade of film will drop VLT below the legal requirements of a roadworhty vehicle.
Keep it legal
Danny.
oh i meant that this guy has been told he is only allowed 30% film or a 70% vlt on any of his windows! sucks for him i guess he isnt a customer oif mine though

Same as previously said, Direct Line seam to be against any mods whatsoever. If you have vehicle with standard glass and get tinted to match factory glass they dont care if you can purchase a model of that vehicle with the same vlt of tint as standard. They still class this as a mod and are a pain.

I had it before and the customer actually changed insurers when his renewal was due and ended up with a better deal.

This stuff with insurance company's is pretty dicey. Some look to find reasons to not pay dunno.gif

Just dont tell them about it, surely they cant do anything about it

Could you live with the guilt?

I did a customers car the other week. He was 19 and bought a focus St. He got his insurance from a modified car insurance group and needed a mod doing to his car to make it valid so he chose the windows. It's the opposite to what you lot are on about but I thought I'd share.

now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
