PLY = Refers to the number of layers incorporated within the construction. If a film is more than one ply, it is held together with laminating adhesive (not to be confused with mounting adhesive, which holds the film to the glass).
MIL = Refers to thickness. 1MIL = 25 Microns or 0.001 inch.
Typically, automotive films are 1.0mil or 1.5mil thick and either one or two ply.
Nothing can be inferred about a product's longevity based solely upon either thickness or the number of plys. Some of you like it thin, others like it thick. Since the same pigments may be used in 1.0 or 1.5, you can expect similar longevity.

I use a 2MIL/3-ply film and it handles fantastically but it takes a teeny bit longer to shrink compared to my 1MIL/1-ply film. To each their own...

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
