Hi all i have a 1995 Mazda RX7 ive got to do the rear window on in the next week and wondered what is the best way to heat shrink it ? Ive been told by a few people to use the lift and pull technique is there any other ways of doing it or is this my best bet ?

Cheers all

Take it off the car and remove every piece of hardware on it. It's a very tricky shrink but it's doable. Not only is it a tricky shrink but the trimming is really tricky as well. Be sure to set a side a lot of time for this one.

you're thinking of the older style TD. the 95 you don't remove and it's an easy shrink.
TintDude
DOH! What year did they change body styles? I can't remember. Flaugh.gif
blade
not sure. the 95 is the badazz body style though Flaugh.gif

Looking on google images it was '86. Damn, I was off by a decade! lol2.gif

Thats cool i thought it might be a pain how did you shrink it naughtydog ?
TintDude
Blade is right, unless it's '85 or older, it's a piece of cake, and method will do.

Do you think dry shrinking would be ok i just dont want it getting tight in the top and bottom corners and creasing as it has quite a curve to it ?
TintDude
I'd use the dry soap shrink method. Even wet shrinking would work. If you have 3 years of experience, it shouldn't be a problem either way. twocents.gif

Yeah thats cool ive just never done one before and like to go into a job with a bit of knowledge of what other people have done.
Thanks for the info.

I soap shrank it - it was really curved on the corners from memory - i think it was the old POS one.

Just a quick update did it today and it was actually easy !!Getting the old tint off was a pain they had used rubbish film and most of the dye stayed on the window along with the glue and the smell !! Took about 10 mins to heat shrink the rear window it came out really nice.Il put some pics up of it when ive got them on the computer.Might have another one to do as well so its all good !!

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
