Hi peeps,
I have been tinting for about 6 years and have always used johnsons. I do not like the range of sungard and i am looking for your advice, as you guys really know your stuff. I have people in the industry who use suntek and highly recommend it; however I know that johnsons will not let me down and I know if I need to put a bit of heat on it, I can. the suntek EX range is really well priced and I was surprised how cheap I can get johnsons from Holland. Is there much difference between the EX range and STD? Also how do they compare to johnsons charcoal. Thanks for your help in advance. I do a lot of VW work and the sungard is hard work on a MK5 or 6 Golf rear windows. I know that with Johnsons it is still hard work but they come up faultless in the end. Would I benefit better with the suntek EX range? Thanks Guys Kind Regards,
Alan

Alan, if your looking for a film that wont let you down, shrinks very well, has a lifetime warranty, looks fantastic, in my view there is only one option SunTek Carbon

I would use the carbon - I would stay away from the std, it looks ok but does fade, but at that price - you must expect some fading.

i wouldnt put a standard type film on a mk5 or mk6 golf, best go for a suntek carbon or hp range. ex range is ok , i use it myself on certain jobs only 2-5% of my work though

It's worth a couple dollars to me to have a car owner come back with another car, and not come back with a complaint. I use carbon.

Fimmo - hear what you are saying - we dont get the new film in until next month..not even tried it myself and still dont know the official price... but once we get it in we shall announce it...need to see how it compares to STD but Suntek STD Pro. The Suntek guys say it thicker ,more like Carbon; so less creasing and less curl on those smaller pieces.. I mentioned it as Lumar were making big noises about their new film, just keeping the balance ...its a free market after all

I have been using some ATC recently and find it easier to work with and the scratch coat is far superior - I now prefer it to the carbon. I just wish it was wound the other way amongst other things. The Std pro sounds good though.

what sort of warrenty does standard pro have ? i think il stick to carbon over here in aus its cheap and by far sunteks best line. on the topic though for me i use suntek carbon mostly at the moment i find it shrinks really well, looks good once applied, and they give a lifetime warrenty on the usual things plus fading which ive heard lots of bad storied about STD and HP fading and thats not good for your businesses name at all. i find suntek carbons adhesive is a little too sensitive , basically if im applying the film and a finger pops up when i push it out it leaves a ghost like adhesive mark now most times il tear it off and redo it and get a little cranky, but i have left them before just to see if they come back and they havent so maybe they go away when it dries out but im tipping they don't and the customers just don't notice. i am also using johnsons marathon line now , its very similar to silouette but with less metal slight colour variation too. it shrinks well, and i find it much nicer to apply than suntek its more forgiving in its adhesive, like where i said about the ghosting of a popped up finger , johnsons gives you more time to get it to lay before it does that to you. in australia here my distributor of johnsons tells me they are bringing out a marathon non metal film in coming months so that will be perfect as you can use the metal marathon for all window aside from any with an antenna. so yeh if your using johnsons now then your using a good film, id only switch to suntek if its the pricethat is affecting you or maybe you could offer both, i genertally offer suntek as my normal line and thats what i quote for then i try and upsell the johnson marathon when the customer brings their car in or on the phone i will tell them i have a good film or i have a better film that just looks better and performs better (marathon) although the carbon stats say it performs on par with any metal films ive seen which is crazy for a non metal film. anyway food for thought govner ;)

johnson greystone all the way for me, its the only film i have in my shop, ive been using it since the day it came out (i actually had it pre ordered before launch) i have never found anything that comes close, i tried the fabled suntek carbon as i know many people rave about it, i just found it far 2 thin, probably because i am so used to greystone, i couldnt do a saloon car back screen with carbon as it cant support its own weight on install, greystone pretty much installs itself, jumps right out the box and onto the car!!!! (i wish) i think alot of it has to do with what your used to using, the only drawback i find with greystone is that it doesnt lay on matrix as well as some thinner films i have tried but i can live with that, greystone is the best as far as im concerned but its in no way the cheapest!! but i think its dear for a reason
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
