Full Version: ceramic question

i just got my car's windows tinted... its a 2009 chevy cobalt and they said they were installing ceramic.. but i dont know how it feels or anything lol...

however when i get in my car, i have absolutely no service on my phone.. right as i step out i get all the service. this never happened before.

i figured ceramic was to prevent that.

some info on the so called ceramic tint... the shop uses johnsons film. its supposed to be the insulatir. ill take some pics if you guys need them.
lowincash
maybe they didn't put ceramic tint for you. ceramic tint is suppose to not interfere with those signals. what cell phone and provider do you have? however, i've always read about people having issues with their reception (radio, navi, phone) but i've never experienced it before. i've allways had full metallic tint on my car and even my previous car i had 3 layers of metallic tint and reception was fine.
Limo Tint Larry
Have you gone back to the shop and asked them for assistance?

If it were my shop, I'd offer to yank the film. If the problem was solved I would then install a different film at no charge. Problem not solved, you're paying to get it re tinted.

fshizl
well, i got an iphone and att. they offered the ceramic tint because i told them i didnt want to deal with dropped calls or no service... and they went through and did their whole oh feel the heat lamp this is with ceramic you cant feel anything. blah blah...

i got it done yesterday so i have to wait till monday to take it in to them.

its just that i paid quite a bit of money and it sucks that i cant get what they promised...

Well what shade did u choose?

That ceramic film only comes as dark as 35% which to us is a light film. If you were offered it in a limo or dark film its not insultir

Sounds like you got took. Take it back to the shop and ask if they used Johnsons. If so, get your money back. Anyone used that Geoshield film yet? The rep sent me some and it looks pretty good but how will it hold up?

at the end of the day, even if he has IR30 on the doors and some other NR 20 on the back(I assume NR because most ceramics I've seen have a NR look, not an HP look) then he still shouldn't be dropping his calls dunno.gif
blade
insulatIR does not have an NR look. it's shiny as hell and goldish looking. and it's a ceramic/metal film and will definately block signals.
blade
insulatIR 30

it looks very similar to quantum. i thought the point of a ceramic was to get the performance of a full-metal without the interference hmmmmmmm.gif

All 30 percent ceramics have plenty of sheen and absorption to em'. Til you actually install and see the end product you should refrain from commenting on the theory you may think you follow....

I can tell you Ultra Performance from Solargard does not and looks as close to an NR film I've seen. Same with lulu ATX or F1 Pi.

it looks nothing like quantum. quantum is a gun-metal reflective look. insulatIR is goldish reflection.

I have always been told by reps that most ceramics on the market look side by side the same as a NR film. IR is obviously different since it has the metallized layer in it, which I would assume is the reason it looks the way it does.

blade- heres a car with quantum 28 on it. Looks pretty close to the IR to me dunno.gif

Regardless, if the customer was sold on non interference, that's what they should get. Otherwise what the heck was the high price paid for?

We all know, well at least I know that ALL of the full ceramics have shine just like the rest of the full metalics. All these other dark ceramics are blends. That's why they aren't as shiny. That's what I believe.

And I like these ceramic hybrids cuz they block in the high 50s and don't interfere with signals. They may not block 60s but they are better than dyed numbers and should be an easy upsell to high end cars.

I'm just sick of people claimin ceramic and putting dyed up. All my competition does it. I just tell the customers to look it up online and there is no way they can do it that cheap

bingo.gif if my customers want a certain film, then they get it. They paid for it, and its not making me any money having that roll of film sit on the shelf, so minas well install it

So UP is a ceramic film?

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
