Audi A5 Amp Problem

i just did another A5... this time i popped up the rear deck to see what we are up against...i covered the amp with a towel and plastic and on top of that i put tissue paper on top of the plastic to see if it gets wet... under the rear deck they have a inverted sub woofer and tweeters...so i removed the sub and tweets and went on with the install of the tint ...i soaked the hell out of the rear glass 2 times trying to get the amp wet but no such luck the water does not go down to it not even one drip on the tissue paper ...so in my conclusion the inverted sub has to soak up the water or it goes into the voice coil because it is facing upward and it has to short out the amp ....water never even came close to being near the amp or its wires in the elevated area in the back left rear corner where it is mounted....so i am going to protect the woofer and tweets on these cars in the future.... hope i was able to help you thanks big joe class on glass ps to replace the amp with labor is $1700.00 at audi and they have a bulliten posted about window tinting on that car the car has no warranty on the amp if it was tinted !!!!

as far as a woofer getting wet? there is no posible way it would of fried or distroied the amp........we all get woofers and speakers wet when the tint is applied...i just did a a5 and hed no issues...what is it that it is doing? or is it just not working?

you must not have much car audio experience...

yea i do! and getting a woofer will not blow finals in a amp.... "wet voice coils is not like touching pos. and neg together which does fry finals in a amp!"
is this the car thats spoke of? same year make and model.....

by the way a voice coil is covered in a resin that would prodect it(the wire coil) as far as it "GETTING WET " messing up a speaker yes its possible......... "NOT A AMP"

Woofer tweeter amp computer whatever... Im still covering up all that I can and am extremely grateful for the tip, Id rather loose $1700 at the casio before messing that up.

I bet if we refrain from turning the key on for a couple hours that would help some of the water to drain/dry to be extra careful.

you have no clue bro a dead short in any speaker can fry the amp i have been doing 12 volt installs for 19 years and water is a dead short so put this on and sit in the corner until you feel like making another retarded video

ok some if a voice wasnt protected in resign then it wouldnt work at at...yea you know a whole bunch about this.. you surely dont know how a voice coil works...you should realy read about..because you are so far off!

Jeff I want to make something clear to you so you do not think you have started something new.the company I work for has been doing window film graphics of all types for over 40 YEARS and I have pics to prove it so I just don’t want you to be thinking you have started something new.and that would be positive or negative or what ever else you would call it.

okay i have to say your a dickkk if 2 electric contacts are join by water it is a dead short water will conduct each of them to be as one unplug one of your speakers from your amp and twist them together it is a dead short same as if water joined it dickkkkhead

and the post is not for you to prove you tinted one with out blowing it it is to let others know what to watch out for i tinted five before one of my techs had a issue so like i said go practice making some snapping videos or try cutting some more graphics to embarrass your self when tint artist put out the real ones

a frozen voice coil can blow a amp....a blown speaker can blow a amp....a distorted spk can cause a spk to dc and blow a amp and one that is very wet can short and blow a amp

your tinting a window not putting a speaker in a bucket of water so yea nothing like a dead short you should realy think about it a little harder...

tinting a window =speaker damp if this was the case of a dead short than since there is speakers in doors why dont they short out head units?
either way the one i tinted came out fine no electronics fried

yes and im sorry for being this way..the first person to get this car in there shop should research this futher! yes it is great info and i "AM SORRY FOR BEING A A$$" not trying to make front of you calling you names at all,,,besides the yankee part...j/k i completely understand about voice coils and there duties to make sound....amps and there ohm loads but non of that matters...what matters is the fact that you gave us some info that makes us think twice about tinting it... the one i did yea i so thougt about it because all the dash and electronics it does has, you can tell when you first sit in the car. when i noticed that i automaticaly thought that i have to use less water...the only way to do that is to make my slip solution more slip...maybe this is why i had no issues because i was useing less water and more slip....at least on the BG......

so my bad for coming across the wrong way...and would never bring up others girlfriends, wifes, kids or family.....for the record she did leabe but was laidoff..she still wants to work here and maybe next summer?

They can / have / do short out head units.....

Before the days of factory baffles us old school installers would cover the top of the door speaker baskets with duct tape to prevent water from running into the voice coils and shorting out...
