with the 'plug in' key...

just did a remote start on one of these bad boys. not too terribly complicated an install.

I used a code alarm CA-421 and a flash logic FLCAN kit. handles the mux parking lights, the mux keysense, 2nd start, accessory, start function, etc. AND controls the sentry key interface via databus as opposed to antenna ring.

Very nice install...

UNTIL..

(as a background) it IS possible to start this vehicle by holding the key next to the ignition cylinder and using your finger in the 'ignition' slot. the car WILL start and run fine as long as it reads the key.

well, during the remote start sequence, once you insert the key, and turn it to ON the car validates it and the kit cancells the remote start. well, i wanted to make sure that once running w/ remote start, it wasn't possible to just insert finger and drive away. DON'T TRY THIS lol2.gif

i started it (with remote start)... once running, i inserted my finger (no key near it) and turned the ignition ON. the car shut down, the horn honked and the hazards flashed a couple times... THEN..
i tried to start it w/ each key separately.. NO DIGS... it acted like there was NO key in the ignition at all. didnt turn on etc.. wouldn't remote start either.
I thought i broke this stupid car LOL..

i disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes, then after i hooked it back up, started it with each key separately allowing it to run for about 5 min. each. and the remote start worked fine too.
I'll definitely NOT be trying this again since i KNOW it doesn't work lol2.gif lol2.gif

hope everyone learns from my almost mistake HAHAHA beer.gif

The fortin stuff is pretty nice, but the FlashLogic stuff plugs into the DBI port (2 way data) on the code alarm stuff so we use them. They also have a T harness for the new Chrysler tip start stuff as well, but i don't need them. i'm only in there w/ a soldering iron for about 10 minutes.

the cool thing with the FLCAN is that it's a multi platform module. we can flash it to work on the GM stuff, dodge/chrysler, ford, honda, etc.. so we keep it around for a general all-purpose kit. it's a very flexible kit. and since they now have firmware to support data immobilizer bypass as opposed to antenna rings it makes it even better smile22.gif

here's a great idea for ya. I won a beer.gif from a customer that didnt believe me.

Find a guy w/ the tip start key. (make sure you try this in the shop for practice or you'll lose)
bet him a beer.gif that you can start his truck (or car) w/ your finger. they'll say "NO WAY".. AND BET YOU...

put the key next to the ignition barrel, insert finger, making sure you trip the key sense which is a little slide on the bottom of the hole. it pushes forward. then start it and hand the key back to the guy and go collect your beer.gif icon_mrgreen.gif

for what it's worth smile22.gif

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
