I had a little sand blasting job I took care of today. Couple weeks ago I went to look at the job, a company Logo on the front door of a new building. I got the sample stationary of what he wanted told him I'd call with a price and he said "Just do it". thumb.gif Had one of the local sign places make the letters and logo for me and I had left the piece of stationary he'd given me for them with the Company Logo on it. They were ready Friday so I put it all together this weekend and all the construction crew was out of the way and I was ready to blast today. The job took longer to mask off and prepare than it did to blast. I was thrilled with the results and so was he. A little apprehensive when I made out the ticket since I hadn't given him a price so when I handed him the ticket he said in a most serious tone..."No. This is not what I expected." I was a little upset. I was fair. But in my mind I'm feeling a little guilty and thinking it did only take me ten minutes to blast. Uhhcopy.gif But he continued writing the check and when he gave it to me it was for $75.00 MORE than I had asked for. dancing_banana.gif dancing_banana.gif

So I drive back to the shop, singing all the way, and had barely gotten in the door when the phone rings. It's him calling to tell me that two digits of the phone # are transposed. Fbigeyes.gif

hmmmmmmm.gif I though he was kidding. But when he told me he wasn't I dug in the trash and looked at the shiney stuff that the vinyl letters were stuck to originally and I could still see the impression of the letters. When I compared them to the stationary STILL stapled to the invoice from the sign place, sure enough the # was wrong. Now if I had been using the letters as letters this would have not been a big deal. Scrape them off and apply new revised one. But sand blasted onto glass, it's irreversible. So I took the trash and the invoice STILL stapled to the stationary back to the sign place and told them what happened. They are very sorry. They are remaking the letters No Charge. Well, fine. evileye.gif But who's going to pay for the new tempered glass I'm going to have to buy for that door?

crying.gif crying.gif I'm kicking myself in the a$$. I should have looked. It's my fault. Somebody else kick me. Please.

That sucks

But i bet you never make that mistake again

Nope. I sure won't. And I was being so careful. I was uncomfortable anyway not being at the shop doing it. Trying to remember everything I'd need on the job because it was about 15 miles knowing it would be a pain if I had to go back for anything. grinning_and_saying_no.gif I forgot something after all.

Ohhh man....That's Brutal BS.. Fbigeyes.gif Not quite sure what to say, but I feel your pain.

Flaugh.gif The sign place just called. The new letters are ready. Fbigeyes.gif Took a week the first time. Less than two hours this time. I just talked to my glass man. He's gonna take care of me. smile22.gif Told me not to worry about it. So I won't. thumb.gif

You lucked out! It pays to have friends in the business and to hook them up with good prices. what comes around goes around.
I know the feeling in the pit of the stomach when you find out you just screwed up big time....not fun. The guy will tell everyone that you made good on the deal and that you are good to do business with. thumb.gif

One consoling thing about getting kicked from behind...

at least you know you're out in front of somebody.

It's out of my hands. Well nearly. Glass man brought me the new glass this afternoon and I blasted it again. Turned out great... Uhhcopy.gif again. He'll pick it up in the morning to reinstall and bring me back my new peeler. Flaugh.gif So it's time to pray nothing happens between now and then.

A bit of a fright this afternoon. It was not on site this time and no frame on the glass. I used the same measurements I had before... 16.5 " from the top and dead center...but when I applied the vinyl stencil the sign place remade they had moved the cut part just a little down on the vinyl. When I peeled it, I thought, What if it's too low and the door handle might cover part of it up ! Fbigeyes.gif But I called the glass man and he eased my fears and told me since I'm still 8 inches above the halfway mark... it'll fly. Whew. orngbiggrin.gif

Glad it worked out good BS, those are not fun experiences.

evileye.gif It's still standing here in the shop. Glass man got too busy to pick up and install today and it's been a nasty rainy day. So it's still not over. I will feel so much better when it's gone and up.
Braud Spectrum
orngbiggrin.gif It's gone, it's up, it's OVER! dancing_banana.gif

Glass man had another job at the same place so since the old one wasn't hurting anything like it was, and the owner said it was really not a big deal...(yeah maybe not to him Flaugh.gif ) the glass man waited until he had all his stuff to do the other job before making a trip. It was about 15 miles from here. Meantime, I had to look at the stupid thing standing here in the shop as a constant reminder of my mistake for two weeks. evileye.gif

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
