I am going to be doing a "Camaro" windshield banner for a guy on Thursday and want to curve it just enough. I didn't have a chance to measure the windshield to get a curve laid out. Anyone have a measurement?

curve? im confused. the curved edge is created by the straight edge of the film contouring to the curve on the glass.

how much arch to put on the letters to make it contour to the top of the windshield?

I hand cut my windshield strips for tinting to match the contour.....

theres no way i could answer that besids just taking some detailed measurments on the visor you installed....measure from the bottom of the visor to the top of the rubber all the way across. keep the measurments handy for when you are designing the lettering.

I won't see the car until tomorrow when I am tinting it and was planning to have the letters done to install then....

anyone have a camaro sitting around that could measure it??

that would only give you the height of the banner itself.

what he is looking for is how much "curve" to put into the banner to it follows the contour of the top of the windshield. For that what you do is take a skinny roll of masking tape and tape straight across the roof from either the top or bottom of the rubber in the very corners. Then, from the center of there measure down to the top/bottom of the rubber in the middle, and this will tell you how much curve you need. So like my car I cut them as a 6" +2 in my book, which means in flexi I draw a guideline at the top of the graphic, and one 6 inches down. Then, when I curve warp the image, I pull the center down 6" so when its on the car it will follow the contour of the windshield.

As for the +2", a lot of cars like my saturn most of the curve is in the corners, so i adjust those an additional 2" down in those spots to compensate for that, otherwise it would pull away from the rubber on top.

I think that explains it dunno.gif

and I don't have a measurement for the camaro Flaugh.gif

well, I set a curve length of 55 inches and then bent it to 3.5 inches to make my template line. I then adjusted the letters to fit that curve at the length that I needed.....

It did not match the exact curve on the top of the glass, but looked perfect when viewed from the front of the car! Any more and it would have looked curved and any less it would have looked like it was curved down.....

when i researched it on computercut it was only 2 inches

use a straight edge or tape measure and lay it down from one corner of the top of the windshield to the other. from that straight edge, in the center, measure the distance down to the windshield molding. that will give you the distance of arch you need for the banner.

old scool? geuss i just got the eye for this kinda view...never used a straight edgs like that. only a tape measure form the middle of the glass and eye across...new school would just be dragging it in the cut screen of computercut and it would tell you evertime.

Kind of off the path here, but, was there ever a poll on peoples opinion of which looked better. Curved or straight edge? th_wheel.gif

now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
