In the beginning, we only had 20, 40 and 60" rolls to choose from. You'd have to have the 40" roll cut to 18 and 22 (or a 60 cut 18-22-20) at the distributor. Nowdays, along with my either 36" or 40" rolls, I order 22" 35% (our legal shade on all sides in Texas) film simply because it's necessary to do many of the new vehicles D & P's. Some I run sideways out of the 36" or 40" but mostly I use the 22" for sides... whisper.gif plus then I don't have to remember which way to shrink either Uhhcopy.gif . I used to throw that little scraps in the trash can that was leftover from the front two windows. brainwave.gif Unless you have a machine or plotter cutting those patterns out for you, you may not have discovered that it's nearly always perfect for those rear door operas which most cas have. Since I save all my liners in folders for patterns this works out great for me. But even if you don't, you can still save a little on each car by using that scrap. It's usually a big enough piece even without a pattern to cut right on the vehicle.

Not a real big deal... dunno.gif but a foot here and a foot there means a whole nother D & P at the end of the roll.

This may be something everybody already knows... but I'm here alone and have had to discover stuff along the way.

Yep.. Been doin' that for years, but it is a good idea. I don't use pre-cutouts, but I do always go to the side of the car that is most advantageous to start from.. when cutting out a window, like the rear 1/4, I always cut at that sharp angle to fit it.. THen, when you do the other side of the car, (Or double-cut on the same side..) You are basically cutting two 2.5 foot windows, with 2.2 feet of film.. Does that make sense? At the end of a year, you should end up with a free roll or two of film that way.

i've always done it that way. i actually get pissed off when that little piece is too small for the quarters and have to go roll off film to do em. nothing worse than having a little bitty quarter and have to use film off the roll.

Can I ever indentify with this Flaugh.gif

Someone I know once kept track of all the waste and at the end of one year determined it to add up to $6,000 worth of film thrown to the can or floor... pays to use them whenever and wherever... thumb.gif

Amen Brotha....use every little scrap possible. That sh!t adds up quick! thumb.gif
Zrok
i do it that way as well thumb.gif

I agree with all of you ..the way I see it, if I pay for it..I'm going to use it. I have a hanging laundry carousel that I hang all my peices on for 1/4 & vent windows on..that way I don't have to sift through all the peices + they don't touch each other thumb.gif
SQUEEGEE
Do it the same way if I'm not rushed. Have been known to be wasteful in haste.

It's harder these days to get rid of off-cuts because the newer modern cars have deleted front 1/4's thereby losing half of your capacity to use the leftovers.
I use some of them for samples and generally enclose an off-cut rectangle within the promotional brochure and guarantee form for future reference.
Smartest cutting IMO is always out of 60". You have plenty of room to play pattern maker there.

Flaugh.gif thats fuuny devil you must be the only person in your shop to tint and cut out because when you have employees they dont give a crap about waste were owners of the shop does.

Captaintinter.

Precisely El Capitan,
A mate of mine has a HUGE tinting concern in Sydney and he cries buckets of blood when he sees just how much his tinters disgard on the floor when it's not their film.

It would be a different matter if the wastage was coming out of their pocket.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
