Full Version: HOW BRAKES GLASS
Laminated Glass
May crack under impact, but typically remains integral. Splinters and sharp fragments adhere to interlayer.
Annealed Glass
Easilyfractures,Typical breakage (including thicker glass) produces long,sharp-edged splinters.
Tempered Glass
Higher impact energy required to break, but shatters completely when broken.Few glass pieces remain in frame.
Remedial Film Applied To Annealed Glass
Thin (PET) remedial film applied to glass surface does not strengthen the glass and provides little additional protection. The glass easily fractures. The plasstic film delaminates, allowing sharp shards to fly inward.

All laminated glass should be coated with a thin clear film to prevent spalling. This is one of the major flaws in laminated glass. It takes such high levels to fracture the glass that the spray of small fragments in much more dangerous than that of annealed glass. The government and military knows this. Humvey windows are coated with 3M 2 Mil Ultra films to prevent injury to passengers.
