Full Version: 94 CUTLASS SUPREME
Well, I was one of the lucky ones!! Actually had a damn Cutlass come in. When I made the appointment, i was like yeah right, that guy will never come in, not for that much! Much to my dismay, he showed up, right at 9:30am.
TINT ON!!!
So, tell us a bit about how you shrank the bottom
if i was on dope and needed a fix istill wouldnt do that car :P1
Actually it wasnt all that hard. I just messed with it, moving stress here and there until it was molded. After that the install was cake. It went down like a typical back glass.
2 door or 4 door?
thats waht i was thonking mos. would have to be a 2 door
QUOTE It went down like a typical back glass. Rrrriiiiggghhtt...
It was a 4 door. Believe me I know the difference, the 2 dr's are easy. Minus the always rotting package tray. The reason I say it went in easy is because when I molded it, I really frick'n molded it. Then I left it on the window just sitt'n there for about a 1/2 an hour while I did something else. I figured if it sat there for a while it might kinda imbed the curve into the film. Well it must have done something, because when I put it in, it went right down. It didnt even pucker at the bad curve point. Then the rest of it was like a typical b/w. I've got pics if you want to see. I knew no one would believe me, thats why I took them. Let me know. However I havent done that yet on this board so you'll have to coach me a little.
Tint On!!!
i get to do an old satrurn 4 door tomorrow, an tips?
The Saturns arent too bad. Take the package tray out, that gives you lots of room to work with. When you mold, try to mold directly on the curve. By doing that the film will "learn" that curve better. Upon install squeege everything out before the bottom. Then work from the middle of the bottom pushing down and toward the side. When you get to the curve, just go slow and do the same, down and toward the side. Kind of a sweep motion. If you try to push straight down it will likely crease on ya. The matrix on that Saturn is nice too. Oh yeah, when you cut it out check the very bottom middle, not a lot of room down there, but all kinds of room on the bottom sides. Hope that helps.
thanks dude
anytime TD
Were you using a dyed or HP film? One piecing that is something I've not seen, and then to say it was not that hard!
i think i'll try the wet pull method on the bottom, and dry shrink the top
great job on the one piece FBJ. I'll have to say doing a one piece on a 93 or 95 Cutlass Supreme is something I've never done.
I was using an HP film. No creases, no burns, no binds.
Geeeeze. I had a 2dr Cutlass come in today. Not nearly as bad, but if this Cutlass crap becomes a trend, Im gonna be pissed.
Tint On!!!
my saturn was a no show today
my last tintjob today was a bug
have you tried the wet lift, pull, feed shrink? (i still dont know what the hell to call it
i tried it today, when i was lifting and pulling i couldnt get the film to lay down uniformly, i got the whole thing down but the areas that i didnt get down good gave me problems, i rewet the film and tried to heat over the pockets... i creased it in a couple spots and said f-it
me too, i only use it once in a great while, and haven't had a bug since i learned it
Ya know I tried that the other day. I messed with it for about 1/2 an hour. I couldnt seem to make work too well.
Tint On!!!
Seems like we heard that Protint was doing that with Mr. Window? in San Diego. We could ask him what they call it or let Protint name it
[quote]have you tried the wet lift, pull, feed shrink? (i still dont know what the hell to call it[quote]
F'k that 3m install pull my pee pee and wet tug method
the last few times i've tried it, i've been doing the baby powder thing, and i used it at the top of a new 2 door stratus, ALLLLMOST burned the film (i know, it needs to be wet under) but it got me through....i stll need to practice it tho...as for the 4 door saturns, i know you guys don't like drier sheets, but they are the shiznit for the saturn back glass, just put the horizontal of your H anchor, just below the dots and it's a fairly easy shrink, remove back deck to make install a breeze. (p.s. i own my 3rd old ass busted tired wrap back window saturn, i love these cars) just my opinion.
zrok, the dryersheets are my favorite method, but i can't use them anymore (they made me very ill) but the fabric sizer is almost as good, so i use that now
I stick with good ole wet molding. I find that doing it wet is just faster and more precise. The only time I will dry mold is when I have a Beetle.
ok TD, then do it yoooouuurr way
Props to Squeej...I wet shrunk an old 300Z today and didn't have to pull or tug !!!
Seriously though. I've stuck with the fabric sizing and I pull out the sheets only for Eclipses and Camaros. I can't afford to experiment (waste film) like I used to as I tint full-time now and every mistake I make is lost $$$. TD, I'm sure you know this but if you lay the fabric sizing on thick it will behave about as close to dryer sheet goo as you can get. Sometimes I can't tell the difference.
i still wet shrink . never seen the powder or dryer sheet done . not in person and able to ask questions on it . but since this site . ive been figuring it out
First time I saw dry molding was in 97 I think. Right when the new beetles came out. I was glad that dry was around. I learned all dry techniques on the beetle. LUCKY FOR ME we do all the work for a local VW dealer, so I had to get good with dry real damn quick, that was when the beetles were selling left and right. To date I think Ive done about 350 or so. I lost count after about 200. Im such a dweeb. But back then very few people could do them in 1 piece, so I was kinda proud of me sef.
damn i started in 97. but im kind of a self tought tinter. i worked for a tint company but he never realy wanted me to learn how to tint . just wanted me to be a helper . cuz he was scared of compition. but i learned alot from him because i asked questions. and then went and did my friends cars. because i wanted to be a tinter. the furthes i ever got with him was . visors and or eyebrows. quarter windows . and near the end witch was 2 years later doing simple dorrs he cut . well thats for him . but the whole time i knew i was bieng held back. so i asked my questions when i messed up . did my friends cars. got half way decent at tint and quit. and moved on . i wasnt going to let his fears hold me back. and not to toot my own horn but know im better than him
Good job Peirce!!!
hey i seen the money he was making . and knew i could make the same someday . even more if i cared more
damn, thats a monster. any close-ups?
Honestly TD, their isnt a flaw anywhere in that thing.
sweet. 2 pieces?
1 baby...no reliefs, no creases, no binds, no burns, no contamanents, 100% matrix down.
damn, my hat is off to you
Thanks TD
Nope, he said one piece in his first post
QUOTE But I one pieced this one and got the matrix all down. Good job FBJ Edit: Bah... I'm a few posts behind :(
what shrink technique did you use?
I did it wet. Thats all I use, unless its a beetle or something.
Just did one of these excpet it was a 1991 and man what a pain. Charged the guy too little was a friend and the back window..
Next time I'll charge like 599.99 PLUS TAX..... The main problem with these is that the exess is not on the bottom so bad... it's in the middle. Each time I did one piece it shrunk perfectly and laid down great on the outside. Then once I installed it wanted to roll back in those corners. '93 4 door This thing is like brand new.
got my azz kicked today with one of these....actually a '95. same thing though. tried a one piecer. worked on it long enough that i couldn't finish it. had to go to a residential estimate. not looking forward to tomorrow.
oh....by the way, did i mention the mothafucka wanted quantum 28? any film other than quantum and it would probably be done by now.
yeah i know...i dug this thread up from no-where. but i didn't feel like starting a new topic on an old car.
