Pumpin' Up Your Cheapie Heatgun...

SQUEEGEE
I must say that I half-owe this tip to Paladin. Awhile back he posted about how he accidentally ran over his cheap Milwaukee heatgun. The gun which wasn't very old still worked but the back plate behind the fan was broke off. He said he tried it for awhile on a heat shrink and he said the defect may have actually made it work better.

I was curious because it made sense to me. More air coming in-more air goin' out. dunno.gif

Took a 3/8" drill bit and drilled 9-holes on the back plastic outer plate. Fired it up and the little gun that would blew out more air and seemed to quicken my heatshrinks. inot.gif

For the handy types in here that have a drill laying around and use a cheap heatgun, try it and I think you'll agree. You can use tape or vinyl tape about 1/4" up on the drillbit to keep it from going to far in and damaging the fan.

Good luck.

Worth a try. More heat, more air, more better. rollin.gif

Okay,

Enough of you fools already saw this. Anyone tried it yet?

Just curious.

It's been working great for me.

This is my 1st time seeing this tip but I think it's well worth a try. thumb.gif Thanks Squeej!!
Mr paladin
It also keeps your heat gun from over heating thumb.gif
Mr paladin
Try a unibit for drilling

Try a unibit for drilling

I suppose you could but I chose to vinyl tapewrap a standard 3/8" drill bit about 1/4-1/2" inch up so the tip of the drill bit wouldn't hit the fan. It looks like you'd have to sink the unibit pretty far in there to get the desired width of the vent holes. dunno.gif

Vinyl tape worked great for me to stop the downward push once the tip broke the inner surface of the back plate.
Mr paladin
you can also run it over Flaugh.gif

Well you could stick your head up a butcher's ass to get a good look at a T-Bone but I'd rather take the bull's word for it!

Wait, I mean you could stick you head up a bull's ass with a butcher...Damn...You could stick...

or you could just run it over! spit.gif

hmmmmmmm.gif more air? hmmmmmmm.gif so you're sayin more air helped you heat shrink faster/better? hmmmmmmm.gif evileye.gif evileye.gif evileye.gif evileye.gif
rather than drill into a cheapo heat gun, you could just buy a porter cable and have the same results. this "more air" theory is what i've been trying to get across to you boneheads for nearly a year. evileye.gif

Yep...yer probably right TTS. dunno.gif

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
