Gasket Wizard.. What is that? Tips anyone?? // SwEdishTinTer...
It's a series of 7 varied length bars which you slide into th gasket of rolldowns and bungee cord them in such a way that it pulls the gasket away from glass allowing you slide the film under it. Once you get the hang of them , they work pretty good, I use them...but only on certain cars
here is a pic of it from filmhandler
it goes in between the gasket and glass, the bungee straps provide some tension and it pulls down on the gasket pulling it away from the glass, this gives you space to get your tint down below the gasket and you dont have to take the door panel off or tuck the gasket down. it doesnt work on all cars and trucks but most of them it does.
here is a better look at the gap it can create for you.
(Mdog @ Mar 6 2004, 10:47 AM) it goes in between the gasket and glass, the bungee straps provide some tension and it pulls down on the gasket pulling it away from the glass, this gives you space to get your tint down below the gasket and you dont have to take the door panel off or tuck the gasket down. it doesnt work on all cars and trucks but most of them it does. "The Edge", which is in the attached picture, also goes in between the gasket and glass. The handle allows you to provide the needed pull back on the gasket, giving you space to drop tint below the gasket. You control the device and will find it unnecessary to remove door panels or tuck gaskets down. It will not work on all cars and trucks, but.... it's much safer for you and the car. This is NEW from 44tools.com (Intro'd at IWFE).

Seems to be very handy piece of tool.. I wonder if i can get in Sweden? Those guys on 44-tools, do they have a dealer in Sweden? (SwedishTinter @ Mar 7 2004, 11:58 AM) Thx Guys. Seems to be very handy piece of tool.. I wonder if i can get in Sweden? Those guys on 44-tools, do they have a dealer in Sweden? No, but they ship internationally.
I had a tinter that jammed two overlapped glass sticks under the door panel to get it off the glass. He is one of two that worked for me that could peel the entire piece of liner off a rollup tint and slipped it into place clean as a whistle. The other guy would peel the whole thing and actually cut it from the inside. I never did figure out how he did that. We called him "weed". He was in his own zone.
The Edge sure resembles the plizznastic whizzniggler.
(wndotint @ Mar 8 2004, 12:02 AM) The Edge sure resembles the plizznastic whizzniggler. what did I tell ya MDOG ? Too bad I couldnt have scored a freebie
MDOG has been wobbed !!!
First the PimpStick gets a politically correct name and becomes Bigfoot then The Pliznastic Whizniggler becomes The Edge! Had a chance to sample Bigfoot recently. My PimpStick still outperforms the nasty little corporate ripoff. Conspiracy? Me thinks so. (SQUEEGEE @ Mar 8 2004, 07:30 AM) MDOG has been wobbed !!! Conspiracy? Me thinks so. I don't think so... part of being successful in getting ideas implemented is not to discuss them with anyone until the time comes. The concept was born back in 1984 at Brevard Glass Tinting of Cocoa Florida... we called it the "Trac Tool'... Lee Peyssard at Solar Graphics in Cocoa has been using it since its conception, Donna Gillette tried making a fast buck off of it without telling anyone then and still prefers to use one to install today, Linda McCabe of Brevard Glass tinting can also attest to using the same tool concept since the day she began working with the rest of us at BGT. PFD (44tools.com) was developing a slanted trim guide for flat glass many months ago and asked if I would look over their design. Turned out to be very similar in appearance to the Trac Tool concept.... I suggested the extensions or flare outs, and a slight increase to the angle so that it could be used for both auto and flat glass. I have done nothing with the Trac Tool concept until working with PFD' s idea. I may even have the plans for the Trac Tool sealed in an envelop sitting in my safe deposit box in Martinsville (or possibly through the papers out for lack of know how to bring it to market). MDOG's wigit replicated what was already conceived, but with a different slant (no pun intended). I made no comment on his tool merely because of the fact that I had already been sitting on the Trac Tool idea when first arriving at TD.com. Imagine a newbie saying they already thought of that 20 years ago... what with the way some sit in wait on TD just for an opportunity to pounce upon a newbie... no way was I gonna say anything. Furthermore, I am making zip, zero, nada on this concept... I gave the rights to Performance Tools with one request... that it get done and put out to the masses. Now... if you want to still look at it as someone got wobbed, clobbed or whatever... feel free too... if you want to verify the claim, contact Lee, Linda, Donna, or my ex-wife Louise... if you want a freebie, call me and I'll be glad to arrange it. But be sure you have all the facts before saying anything more about it. And Squeeg... take a look at the Slim Foot, a modified version of the Big Foot also direct result of input by one who knows install tools.
i got the idea for the pliznastic whizzniggler after seeing something simular on the internet. it wasnt my idea at all, i just figured if people wanted to make one for free then it was all good
wasnt my idea
End of drama....
By the way MDOG, I am shipping a couple of these (Edge) things to you in return for input and for granting permission to use your vinyl'd back glass photo... the one that will be used in the next LLuLLu Filmclips issue. I even stressed to the layout person to be sure you received a proper credit wth the photo (I hope they don't let me down).
thanks metint
If any of you folks like the gasket wizzard just pick up a couple plastic report covers. Just like the ones you put your essays in in high school. cut them into 2" strips and fold them in half. There you have it gasket wizard for about a $1 instead of $100. I also have a couple cut for the fronts of the roll up windows like the camaro or Trans Am frameless. Lets you slide the tint right in behind the rubber.
Carpet shields used in painting work the way you've described as well...
(metint @ May 6 2004, 08:59 AM) Carpet shields used in painting work the way you've described as well... Yeah, Johnson window films sell those carpet deals in there tools catalog, that's where I first got mine. Then later noticed them at a Menards when I was there and realized what they were. I've been using those for years, I have no complaints, love em!!
Why am I not finding "The Edge" at 44tools.com? I did a search and it is not coming up. Does it have another name?
there's always talk about the cost of a Gasket Wizard...yes it's a hosing in the price ...but it works well, it's a 1 time purchase.
Bottom line is....If you tint full time ..no cost should hold you back if it's a tool you want or like and it works. (Eclipse @ Jun 22 2004, 07:36 AM) Why am I not finding "The Edge" at 44tools.com? I did a search and it is not coming up. Does it have another name? I think if you were to call their 800 number they could better serve you. Last I heard the first shipment sold out faster than anticipated... they are now awaiting resupply from the factory any day now. I didn't help matters any by prematurely having the item promoted in LLumar's Film Clips Newsletter without first consulting 44tools as to their supply level. Let me know (thru PM) if the delay is not to your suiting and I will check stocks around the LLuLLu distribution network and see if I can drum one up for you.
looks like I have to get one of these now, I have been using carpet gard since day one but I would like something stiffer (keep your minds out of the gutter)
.stopped in my tracks.......
glad to hear it TW
(SwedishTinter @ Mar 7 2004, 11:58 AM) Thx Guys. Seems to be very handy piece of tool.. I wonder if i can get in Sweden? Those guys on 44-tools, do they have a dealer in Sweden? I can help you out with getting tools. I live in Germany and can ship them to you. Call me @ 01609-553-0391, my name is Ed.
You ever had one of those bungee cords come loose from the wizard while your sticking the tint? I had one of the ends come off one time and hit me in the jaw, funny as all get out to those around but it hurt like *%$@. Left a bruise for a week.
I would be worried about one letting loose and breaking a window
the trick to getting the wizard to work is to use just enough pressure to make it work, if you put a buttload of tension on the cords yes they might pop off
best way i have found is to hook them like this around the grab handles if you can. dont go all the way to the bottom of the panel if you can avoid it. if you tie them to the grab handle they dont have enough room to come bouncing back at yo azz (High Octane Tinting @ Jun 23 2004, 10:28 PM) You ever had one of those bungee cords come loose from the wizard while your sticking the tint? I've heard that one b4... and I've heard of the bungee pulling out the wizard and leaving an eight-inch stitched slice in an arm.
Carpet Shields rulez!!Clean and easy!!
