PA tint laws

Pa law in a very uncertain way states that windows that have 70% are legal (or that does not permit a person from viewing the inside of your vehicle is illegal) if i have 20 % tint on my windows what would my windows show up as with a tint meter. and you can view the inside of the car with 20% tint right??

Wrong 20% film means that 20% light is coming through the glass. Well even a little less light due to the factory tint in the glass already. But a 20% film will shoot a 17% on a light meter. A 70% film is really clear. Madico makes a AG-70 and Solis makes a 70% but when installed if the cop or inpector drops a meter on it it will read like 67 or 68% and they will fail you. Most of the time they don't even know it is tinted with a 70%VLT film installed. VLT = Visable Light Transmission.

that is only on the front two doors . where 70 % is legal . the back you can be 28% . if you go 35 all around you wont have trouble. as long as a cop can see in the car . he will not stop you. depending on where in pa your from you may even be able to go darker. with out having to worry about cops

So what your saying PIE is that if a cop puts a meter on the dudes window and it reads less than 70% but the cop can see through it its good?

i had 20 on the front doors, and 5 on the rest. took off the front doors and he
dismissed the case, but the cop told me if he sees me again he will stop me because the rear window is to dark. i put 20 back on the fronts yesterday. is 5 on the back window actually illegal

no not at all pro. but in most parts of pa they are not that strict on tint. as long as they can see in they wont stop you

yes it is and so is 20 up front. if they cant see in they will stop you

I hear ya bro. It's the same way here with the cops. They rarely pull people over normally they just use it for probubble ( at spelling) cause just to pull over some young punk with some dope or beer in his car.

actually all the law says is "Must be able to see into the vehicle" that is all it says, PENNDOT says 70 for all windows, screw PENNDOT since when are they part of the judicial branch of our government.

neon: I use solar gard film...I care a 43% your car would be very close to legal with it ; however I do very little of this as people want something noticable on there vehicle and 43% doesn't cange the glass much ..I use alot of 32% it is not legal in Pa. but like pie said the if you can see in, you usually will not have a problem. it also help if you do not do a light or medium on the two front and darker in the back . I do alot like that too but it make the car stand out more and make the car look tinted with the same all aroound it look as if it should be that way (know what I mean)?...the penn dot law also says you need to put a sticker in the back glass a 1 inch vesc20 sticker even if you use a 43% or light film with out this sticker you can still be made to remove the tint. but what it really comes down to is the cop 5 cop will give yo 5 different answers if they want to hassel you they will..I'd stick to 32% of close to that all the way around...

td it isnt realy that bad unless your in a small town. then they have nothing better to do. and one of the only ways to get money. here in philly i can put limo all the way around and never get stopped.

thanks for the info, im gonna stay with my 5 % on the back three, and 20% on the front two, ive been okay for five years up to a few weeks ago we will see what happens

dude where do you live . if its a small town . or even if its alocal cop. he is going to rember your car and stop ya. but im glad we could give our advice for you not to lisrne to a word of it.

Pierce is right the state toooper could car less and the same for most of the local cop...hell If tinted most of there vehicles but you getone of those @$$%ole....we got one place near here and the had a huge dr*g bust ..with the cash they confinscated theybought all kinds of equiptment....well one cop ordered the light meter and nails everyone none of the other in that area care about tint but him.... :ahole :ahole

cops can also use it as a reason to stop you....but it is not very common unless your limoed out...it is lone of those luck of the draw sometimes to....

Pirece & I have talked about Pa cops before, in philly they don't give a crap even if you drive w/limo all around so many do , the cops have more to worry about than illegal tint,however outside the city it's a different story,they will nail you , can't speak for western pa but i'm sure it's simmilar in the small towns. My recommendation is 32% all around. Tintdude I wish they would get those losers :ahole out & get the law to make sense

I've had State Troopers pull me over before for tint.

and local cops that pulled me over for something completly different, and made me roll up my windows half way. ..

None of them ever said anything about the back windows being completely black.

IMHO.. most PA cops dont even know the tint laws. They just know that its !llegal in may ways, pull you over, and cite you. How many heard stories of PA officers making women pull off tint right along the street!! i have! I was doing a car at a dealer, who was recon'in a local officers cruiser. When he comes in to pick the cruiser up, i start talking to him about tint and tint laws. HE KNEW NOTHING. He even started to ask me questions.. Its rediculous. This state is stupid in MANY ways. I honestly think, "sparklers" , you know the small 4th of july handheld firework... I believe their !llegal up here.... if I recall correctly...

I'm about 60 miles south of Pittsburgh, and down here we tint the city police and state police personal cars. Most of them go !llegal. While talking with a state trooper about tint, he said it's not MY responsibility, it's the responsibility of the driver of the vehicle to know what's legal and not legal. He said you keep tintin' them and we'll keep pullin' over, that way we both make some money.

I have 15% and 5% double layered here in PA, heres what I know. Philly cops never pull me over. Ever. They could care less. Go outside to the suburbs, most of the time they will give you b.s. From my experience, less crime area= greater chance for getting stopped. I've gotten a handful of citations but could care less. as far as state troopers in PA go, it's the luck of the draw with that. I've gotten pulled over by 1, and had some just cruise by me. All comes down to the cop. But definately the Philly police don't really give a care about tint laws. I can vouch for that.

Agree with you write, philly cops have more important things to worry about. Suburbs is a different story. I live outside of philly and they're ballbusters around here.
