I talked to the boss today about it and he's all for it, but i don't want to start using a bad product at all. He's talking about using 3M. Who uses what and what other brands have you used?

Also, can you do me a HUGH favor and give be some basic installation instructions?

I have use the 3M, Venture, and the ClearShield. If you want the best looking stuff go for the ClearShield. It is smoother in apperience and has no yellow in it like the others. You don't notice the yellow till you put it side by side with the others but you will notice it on the white cars. Another plus is it has agressive adhessive and takes heat well so if you wrapping bumpers it fairly easy to work with. The Venture tape isn't bad and it streaches real well so might be a better choice for someone just starting out.

I agree with kcc. Go with the Venture to start with. Stretches good, good clearity, fairly aggresive adhesive. If you do any stretching, make sure to stretch in all directions then anchor.

Oh yea, welcome to the PPF world. I hope you like the stuff. Just remember you didn't learn to tint in a day and you definatly will not learn this in a day. Be patient and don't give up. There is a groing need for PPF installers who are willing to give it thier best everytime without quiting and sending customers somewhere else,( like to me, that just bugs me). Good luck TD.

I have to dissagree here TD.. I want the job to continue to look good into the future. 3M is the only product that has a hard-coat, which makes it more resistant to chemicals, becomming dirty over time, and holds the glossy luster over time. Its more difficult to work with, true, but would you tint cars withought a hard-coated window tint?

Besides. In 2 more weeks, at SEMA, 3M is introducing their new/improved PPF, that will be more optically clear ( I have NEVER had a customer complain about yellowing.. ??) And, easier to install.. Probably a stronger adhesive, and easier to stretch, but that's just a guess.

I'll be there for the roll-out.

I'm not a 3M fanatic, as I don't like their window tints, but I would use nothing else for my PPF. (Unless I see a truely superior product come out)

I was lucky and got to get a crash course from JP last year. He knows his stuff when it comes to ppf and has the experience to back it up.

TintMiester, where do you get your film from?

I agree with TintMiester on 3M. It's a bit harder to work with, but its always easier than removing the other film and replacing it the Scotchcal once you new folks figure it out.

Thank you kcc for the kind words. It's nice to be noticed sometimes. Hope things are going well for you with the PPF.
