Window Tinting Prices

The ongoing debate over window tinting prices is bigger than ever. The tinting facilities debate on lowering prices to bring back customers. Other shops refuse to lower prices to meet competitors prices. New tinters are working for less, while veterans are demanding more. Customers want reasons why they should pay more for "the same product".

What to do and how to handle this problem is an answer all of us in the tinting industry would like answered. The problem is, there is no answer. Window film, like any other consumer product, has the lowballing ditch dwellers and the high end guys who have been around for a while. Notice I said "the high end guys who have been around for a while". The low end guys come in, service their customers with the cheap prices, then hightail it before the consumers can come back with a problem. If any of you have ever purchased a cheap, no-name electronic product, only to have it fall apart in your hands within one year, you know exactly what I'm talking about. There will always be the guys out there running an industry into the ground, selling inferior products, pricing it at just pennies above cost, just to get those customers looking to save a buck. And it works. Consumers are always looking for a bargain, and until a few of them start understanding that they are sacrificing quality and craftsmanship by saving those few dollars, there's not much we can do but service those few customers who have learned this lesson.

While all of us would like to like to have the lowballers run out of town, there's no need to take such drastic measures such as lowering your prices. Yes, they take potential customers out of your shop, but does anyone know of a lowball hack shop that's been in business for more than 2 years? They're just a temporary problem, but a problem none the less.

While there's not much we can do about them, and there's always another one waiting to take the last one's place, we don't have to lower ourselves to their standards. Just keep pupming out the near perfect jobs with a good film and the customers you really want will keep coming back no matter the price. And the customers looking for a "deal" will always go with the $99 guys. Because face it, does any decent tinter REALLY want to tint a 73 Ford pick up or a 72 Pacer?

These are my thoughts on the lowball hack shops out there, and the lowball customers that do business with them. These thoughts are not necessarily condoned or endorsed by any person or member here at tintdude.com.
