Installed 3M PPF today

FastBackJack
Today I got the priviledge to install 3M PPF to MY BOSS'S DAD'S COBRA......AHHHHH!! It went really good though. Took me about 2 hours. I did the lower air dam, lower air dam inserts, the bumper face, and the bit right above the bumper. Ya know I thought crouching in the back seat of a 2 dr was bad....but man working on the ground sucks. Everytime I do this I go home with a seriously f'ed up back!!!! Got some pics for you guys. Please excuse the multi posts.
FastBackJack
It kinda sucks that you cant really see the work....but I guess thats actually a good thing. If you cant see it that means its a good job. Flaugh.gif

amazing, its mind boggleing to me how you get the stuff to go around the corners and bends like that Fbigeyes.gif

hey FBJ, do you guys have a lift?? it would make it way easier to install that stuff if it were in the air. and that shizzle looks off tha hizzle dude thumb.gif

Looks good, also looks like a PITA, but then, so is tinting... thumb.gif

Yeah that s**t is scary as hell to just push down. Youve got these big ass fingers that you cant mold....you just have to smash them down. Somehow it doesnt crease. Wierd!!!

Never heard of a tint shop in need of a lift. dunno.gif hmmmmmmm.gif orngbiggrin.gif
Exact-Oh
Having a lift is awesome! No need to crouch down to low doors. Never a sore back from laying on the floor.

I am just lucky to work out of a mechanic's shop.

I've got a bout 15 feet of that stuff, but to chicken to try it on my own cars Flaugh.gif I wonder if it'll turn yellow afeter awhile dunno.gif
FastBackJack
I cant see that it wont. Anything clear doesnt stay clear forever. It does however come with a warranty saying that it WONT turn yellow. Yeah riiiight!!

You should try it out Gus. Its really cool to work with. Just becareful cutting ON THE CAR. Dont press too hard....all you need to do is score it and pull it apart. thumb.gif

I've got 3M on 2 of my cars - 01 Jetta and 90 Porsche C4 Cabriolet. The Jetta is white and after 2 years somewhat yellow. The red on the Porsche looks great. I've installed 3M on probably 20 vehicles and Clearshield on a couple of others. The Clearshield(i once thought was 3M but now think is something else) is awful to work with and unbelievably dificult to remove. The 03 Grand Caravan I most recently did (hood piece) was impossible after 2 pieces/tries. Llumar is introducing their new PPF film and I gave it a try on the same hood - down in NO TIME. Like 5 minutes and optically better than either. If the film has longevity to it it will become a favorite - so ez to work with!!!! thumb.gif

I use the 3M from Invincashield. I like their patterns much more than Clearshields. I dont do too much of it though, just every now and then. Most of what I have installed has been on my cars, and friends.

you guys use patterns? i use do it all a roll.it fits better and is cheaper in the long run

Looks good there FastBackJack. Its so hard to explain to people the trickyness of installing this, but when you do it right, its right.

I did 250+ cars in January this year, for a car dealership near me. Check out all the pictures on my website... Some really sneeky angles, and curves to fight with on there.. Have you done a mini-cooper, or the new lancer Evo8 FBJ?

It looks like you put the effort and quality into the job at least, and that is a good thing.

Check my website.. www.qualitytint.com It has lots of pictures of installs on cars I've done, with descriptions of good/versus/bad installs...

Leets compair notes some day.
