Learning the hard way

So being a newbie and unfortunately learning my lessons through mistakes, a helpful hint to anyone.....

Don't unroll your bulk roll of film over dirt and debris (sand, gravel, etc.)

I know you are all probably rolling your eyes at my novice move but I am mobile for the most part and was installing rocker panels on a Chevy Avalanche this past weekend. I was using the guy's garage which was reasonably clean but had the usual dirt and such on the concrete floor (even after sweeping). Well I had brought painter's plastic to put down so that I would not get the film dirty as I needed to cut some pretty long sections (I don't like cutting on the car so I use transfer paper) and after cutting out pieces for all of one side, I began installing the film and had a few little bumps as if there was something under the film. No problem right....just lift the film and remove the piece of dirt or hair. Wrong....there was nothing to remove...just an indent in the film that wouldn't lay down (brand new black Avalanche...so it looked like crap). I ended up realizing the problem was just the weight of the roll was making "impressions" of the sand and gravel from the floor into the film as I unrolled to cut out pieces (even through the painters plastic I had laid down). I ending up re-cutting the pieces off the roll standing up (a little weird but no impressions).

Anyway....like I say.....just me learning the hard way but nonetheless, sucks losing about 12 feet of 24" film.

Cheers

A: I am sure we have all done insane things like that in the past ( I have..).

Looking back, some of the best things have been created by mistake. You just need to find a market for your impressioned film LOL

A: Let me get this straight you cut the film on the ground, have you thought of picking up a folding table that you can take with you I do and I cant live with out it. They are reasnably cheap (under $50.00) and as long as you get the right one you can fit in a car or truck and boom no more cutting on the dirt.
