Trim the Sides

Trim the tint from the sides, leaving about a half an inch past the edge. This will be removed when you make your final cuts. The sides are trimmed to allow you to move the excess film to the top and bottom of the window as the film will only shrink against the grain of the film (toward the factory edge). This is one reason heat forming window film is so difficult. Not only do you have a compound curve to deal with, but you can only shrink the film on the top and bottom. All side excess film gets moved to the top and bottom making the excess film in those areas even worse.
