Mirror tint

A lot of web searches are for mirror tint, so I thought I'd put together a page about it, mainly to veer people away from it.

Any opinions on mirror tint pro or con?

Do you get alot of requests for it?

Re: mirror tint

Are you talking about flat glass or autos??? If your talking about flat glass, Yes I do get a fair amount of customers asking about it for privacy issues... If you talking about autos then the answer is not very often but still do get some wanting it and I wont put any mirror film on a car unless it is made for autos... Hope it helps???

Re: mirror tint

If you guys are referring to the flat glass mirror tint, like the silver 20 or 15 stuff. Yes, I agree. DEFINATELY not for auto use. But the reflective designed for cars, can look pretty cool. I upcharge for it and have no problem getting it.

stupid question about mirror tints...
hi all...

i combed about the site a bit, and sort of found the info i was looking for, but not fully ...

here's the deal.

I have a '94 Honda Prelude that I bought used from someone in another state about a year ago. The Prelude apparently had been in some sort of accident or perhaps it was broken into when the last owner had it (i'm the second owner -- waah-hey! ... it wasn't hurt badly as there's no frame damage) and the passenger side window has no tint on it. I need to get that tint replaced for security reasons.

and i *think* it's mirror tinting ... but not entirely sure. it sort of looks like the tint shown on the 'mirror tint' page that's on this site -- it has a sort of greenish hue to it when you look at it from the outside of the car, and it's black'ish looking from the inside of the car.

i'm not about to attempt doing any of this myself, but I don't want to spend a fortune on getting one window re-done...

how much does it cost to have a patch-up tint like this done, on average? what prior info should i know when hunting for a shop to do the work? I've never had to have tinting done before ... and i don't want to get overcharged for one stupid window.

is it relatively easy to match this sort of thing so that it doesn't look like it's not the same tint?

will they have to pull the door apart on this vehicle?

also, i'm wondering ...

i'd like the tint to be darker so that it's difficult for would-be street thugs to see in... can you have a second layer applied to the mirror tint or would i have to have the tint totally redone?

any answers would be greatly appreciated. sorry if i sound like a moron.

cheers.

Re: stupid question about mirror tints... Call your neighborhood tint shop or drive down there. If they are any good they can tell you if they can match it and it should cost about 30-40 per window and about 15 to remove first layer, don't put tint on top of tint espec. on fronts.

New Post got it done finally...
ok so i was finally awake enough during the day to go out and get this done on the window ... went out over the weekend but the clowns i first checked out had never seen this sort of tint before ...

went to an extremely professional-seeming place and got the job done for $40 and about 25 minutes (and 5 of it was me driving around a ginourmous stripmall to get to their garage door)...

the stuff they ended up using was called "Enduro-Tint" or something like that ... and it was the exact stuff that had been on the car before ... turns out the greenish hue was actually the way the prelude window reflects light ... interesting ...

so there ya go.

Perhaps someone who does the boards could put this under the mirror tinting section as something to mention if they have to get a patch-job done?

thanks for the info... helped me get motivated to get this problem solved.

cheers!

Glad it worked out for you, most tinters will stay clear of the "mirror tint" because it is illegal in most states to have it even on the rear windows.

now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
