Porsche bumper plug paint damage
Q: Anyone else have the paint come right off while removing them? It never happened to me until last month, and it happened three times! The paint cracked off one of them and totally came off in one piece on the other two. Now I'm spooked about taking those things off again.
A: I havent had that problem but I was wondering what you do with the fim under them. Do you just cut an X in it or do you cut a section out? Those stupid plugs always make me nervous that I could screw up the fresh film around it.
A: We have not had any issues, but we have not done any of the new style ones yet. Just 993's and 996's
A: I have done two recently and havent had any problems. What did you use to remove them?
A: We have never come across this either can you be a bit more explicit about what you were doing?
Is it possible that the cars had had a local re-spray? sometimes if they run out of a colour the manufacturers will respray some cars locally. if they did this over the plugs and there was a paint hang across the gap then it would crack the paint on removal.
Check for untidiness on the paint edges on the plugs this may give you some indication if this has occured if so you would need to take a razor blade down the gab to make sure the piece comes away clean.
A: I have always cut around the plugs, personal prefernece I guess.
I am not familiar with that bumper, but is there anyway you can pop the plug out from the back? Reach in from underneath?
