magictinter scratching tint? i have been having alot of trouble lately scratching tint while im sqeegeeing. i clean the outside of the glass before i even think about pulling film to be cut on them. i run my finger across the sqeegee before i start to sqeegee and everything feels fine with them. but after i get done with the window and clean them again, all i get to see is the big suprise of all kinds of little scratches in the film. what am i doing wrong here does anybody know. is it my sqeegee? i use a 3M gold card for my sqeegee. thanks for any help from you all. TintDude Re: scratching tint? every time i tried the gold cards they scratched, i only use the cards for edges though, black smoothie is my normal squeegee, it doesnt scratch at all. magictinter Re: scratching tint? i think me and you (t.d) are talking about two different gold cards. the one im talking about has two raised ribs down the center of it. i think some refer to them as the 3M gold butterfly mikewilliams4750 Re: scratching tint? you need to wrap a towell around that sob, you will be scratching film forever if you dont. TintDude Re: scratching tint? oh yeah i thought you meant the gold teflon cards. magictinter Re: scratching tint? yeah ive used the gold teflon cards before and i learned real quick that was a mistake and switched to the gold butterflies. used to not have a problem then all the sudden on the last 4 or 5 cars ive done ive noticed scrathing. i started to think it was the hard coat on the film being different than before or somthing. mikewilliams4750 Re: scratching tint? i dont think its possible to not scratch film with a hardcard, unless you wrap a towell around it, then that works great. keepitcool Re: scratching tint? i agree w/ mike about the towel.but sometimes i cant get the card in a tight area w/ the towel around it.most of the time i do use the gold teflon card but before each car and periodically while doing a car i check the edges and the sides of the card for burs or rough edges, if i find some i wet down some wetsand paper and scrub the end of the card i use.comes out smooth as a baby's... TintMiester Re: scratching tint? I'm with Mike here.. I never touch the film with any unsafe hardcard.. wrap that rascal with your paper towel. This is my Tip of week for next next week.. hahahahahah I can't stop.. I'm addicted! mikewilliams4750 Re: scratching tint? i really dont use a hardcard, the red baron works just as good, i will use a hardcard cut in a triangle for the edges and corners. i scratch the crizzzzznap out of film with hardccrds :lol magictinter Re: scratching tint? o.k the gold teflon and the 3M gold card are two different things right? so is the 3M gold card consider to be a hard card like the gold teflon card? i dont think we are on the same page here. i am using the 3M gold card not the gold teflon. i know that td uses the black smoothie, but what do the rest of you use as your main sqeegee? maybe i should have just ask this question in the first place because i now have myself confused:lol mikewilliams4750 Re: scratching tint? the 3m gold has the 2 lines in the middle right? and the gold teflon card is different shaped and alot skinnier, magictinter Re: scratching tint? yep, i got it now. sorry for the stupidity. i think i will try the black smoothie and see how it is. thanks for hanging in there guys. mikewilliams4750 Re: scratching tint? this link has both on it.www.tinttools.com/squeegee.html AT228 is like the teflon gold card and the red one next to it os like the gold one, different shapes, but you can get gold in both flavors. mikewilliams4750 Re: scratching tint? majic you have been useing one of those things as your squeege? i mean as your final cleaning squeege? you would feel like your in heaven if you get a black smoothing compaired to that. magictinter Re: scratching tint? nope not as my final cleaning sqeegee. i use the 3M gold as my final install sqeegee. hope im not confusing myself again, and hope im following you mike. TintDude black smoothie grey butterfly cards Mr Paladin Re: scratching tint? Yeah what they said:lol mikewilliams4750 Re: scratching tint? i understand all this :lol SQUEEGEE Re: scratching tint? Black smoothie to clean, Red Baron to install and yellow hard card cut into triangle for edges. oldtinter Re: scratching tint? Etore, Blue Max and Little foot for me...:lol SQUEEGEE Re: scratching tint? OT, You'd love the Red Baron for rollups - very versatile. I failed to mention that I use a Blue-Max with an Unger Pro handle for rear window installs. oldtinter Re: scratching tint? I forget Squeeg, where are you getting the mighty red turbo? sdtintin Re: scratching tint? im simple i use a rubber squeggie just to expel most of the water n then finish up with a hard card wraped in towel n it works ok 4 me i only ever use a hard card without towel for difficult corners n sum edges.
