I've never heard of this before but maybe ive seen it . is this when the glass gets the white haze to it . Normaly in little dots all over the bg. I've allways refered to it as bad glass. Please explain this to me. Nope, it is a small inclusion IN the glass that happens during manufacture, if the glass has one, the slightest stress will cause it to explode. and there is no way for me to tell if it has it or not right. not that i know of http://www.glassresource.com/sub/tough/nickel.htm cool thanks again td here's a very interesting article mentioning safety film and NSI... http://www.ssafprotection.com/102-THAT_WALL_OF_GLASS.htm and yet another dealing with auto glass http://www.glassonweb.com/forum/view.php?mID=514 heres an example of failure in a structure causing injury: http://www.ehj-online.com/archive/2000/july2002/july1.html Hey TD, i almost died my first day tinting. i was doing the delaware trust building.a 30 + story high rise . i was on like the 25 26 27 floor .just scraping the glass going along like nothing . pretty big windows maybe 6 feet high and 5 feet wide. i was leaning on the glass the whole time. because im a lil guy . and had to reach the top of it .well when i got to like the 50th or 60th lite i leaned on it a litttle and it swung open. thank god i only leaned a litttle . and didnt put my weight on it. cuz i would have fell right out . i jumped off the heat register with my heart pounding. damn that scared me . needless to say from now on i check the windows. before i get to em I bet it scared the pooop outta you! Hey TD, I understand about NSI now and how the security film holds it together brilliantly, but what I was wondering is how they secure the film to the frame of the window so that the whole panel doesn't fall etc, do you have any pics of this or can you describe how they do it. I have tinted with security film before but cut it to the size of the pane. when ever you do security film you are suppose to at minimum caulk it that will hold it to the pain if thick enough Yep, got that one, just that I have never had to do security film for the specific purpose of halting the danger of NSI, therefore I have never had to anchor it as such....got any pics anyone of this anchoring process a mechanical attachement is done by overlapping the film onto the frame (either on the two sides or all the way around - four sided) most guys will use double sided tape to stick the film to the frame then come back with about 1" wide metal to drill through the film and frame. If the glass is annealed, not tempered, you will not have to do this for NI Thanx TD for the gr8 links to NiSulIn Pierce, anythime I work that high up no matter the window, I always wear a bungy. You never no when opportunity strikes!
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
