Wet sanding
bandit
Tried 3ms new wet sanding products this week on a air powered palm sander 1500 wetsanding disk then 3000 wet sanding disk then buff out with there TRicut new compound with black foam pad,and absolutely fast and fine!!The dark blue chevy truck had deep scratches from dear hunting fanatic from trees and bushes from front bumpers to rear tail gate. When I was finished it was flawless except for a small one that was inch long and in the metal.Of coarse I topped off with some Zaino

There is a product system used in europe that I just ordered today where the buffing pad is soaked with water and you buffwith a 1500 grit foam compound after you sling the water off your pad,on light colors you need not go no further because there is almost no swirls Dark color use another type pad and com pound useing same procedure for crystal clear high gloss finish !Water soluable compounds are quick to clean up.Will post update when it comes in sounds to good to be true

do you guys use a randomized orbital sander, does that make a difference? sorry I'm new to the paint stuff. Also whats the best grit stages to go on a fresh paint job?
Thanks Chris

With the way I do it a random would be useless ,and fresh paint single stage <what are you trying to do improve deph or get out defects, this will determine grit and compound and same with clearcoat ,there are compounds just for this type of paint.

well the paint is ppg omni, and i would like a shine, but it hasn't even been buffed to get the contaminents out yet. It also has a blue pearl coat on it (don't know if this makes a difference). One of my friends suggested 1500 grit but i'm kinda sketchy on the whole thing. is this one of those things that i should "Take to a pro"?
thanks chris

Who painted the car...usually the painter does the wet sandind and buffing...Yes i would take it to a pro if youve never done it before...sand through and pow, you need some painting again...

Your average detailer may not have the xpertise for this job and the pearl is very costly assuming you are talking a 3 stage paint job.Try a repital body shop if you dont find a detailer your comfortable with.Where are you located and Ill see if I can find you a good one through my sources ,basically like it works on this site, everybody knows somebody in the business!

omni is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP its like 50 bucks a gallon compared to 150.
yes 1500 grit wet, with a foam (memory) pad will be the start, just keep it wet. you will notice a dull shine, (it reflects, but you can't see your face in it. then hit it with a finishing glaze. 3m black bottle, and it should look fine. test it on a hidden spot.
most of my paint jobs I haven't needed to buff at all if the painter is good it can come out of the booth done.
