Wetsanding Went Wrong
sammy004
Can anyone tell me what I did wrong and how can I fix my problem? I just wetsanded a tiny part of my tailgate with 1500 and when I went to go polish it, it had all these scatches on it. what can I do to fix these scatches and what did I do wrong.

Go back with some 2000 W/D paper then use a white wool and a compound that says on the bottle removes 1500 grit sand scratches...follow up with a swirl remover and polishing pad

I just joined and had a question, I live in Illinois and I have a 70 skylark that I'm preparing to piant, should I be concerned with the humidity here, and if so what type of day should I be waiting for before continuing?
Thanks Shell

bandit what is white wool and what kind of compound should I use to remove the scraches. By the way I seen some of your work, I think your the king of detailing. Awsome
bandit
A white wool compounding pad ...Do you have a NAPA or Carquest near you..you can also buy the 3m white waffle pad and a micro compound by 3m and this will cut it ...but you need a swirl remover and black 3m pad to buff behind this if your trying to eliminate all traces of work...ie make like factory new shine..remember a compound will get out scratches but you need another to get out those scratches if wet sanding Low humidity and raining is when I like to paint or tint...no dust or airborne debris ,,,,to a point

So tint bandit I should take 2000 grit W/D sandpaper and sand then take like a maquires swirl remover and wax it out. I'm kinda dumb with instrutions
bandit
You need a light cut to get rid of the 2000 grit scratches...then the swirl remover....on newer clears 2000 is all you should need for the future

I might be a little dumb or I just don't understand. What is a light cut can you tell me in stupid language so I can get in my thick head. It would be greatly appreciated.

Just to be safe go get a pint or quart of 3M micro compound with a foam waffle..this way you can also buff cars and practice removing the spider webbing that comes from too many wash jobs.....then black waffle and swirl remover as your second step!Read my thread on sealants and waxs and compounds....you will see many of what we are discussing
