Window CleaningWindow Cleaning Cleaning windows during and after installation is very important. Improper window cleaning and preparation usually leads to a bad job. For rear windows it is important to scrub the glass with a non-scratch scrub sponge and a surfactant such as dish soap or "dirt off", a cleaning solution available from your distributor. Once the glass is thoroughly scrubbed, lightly go over the glass with a teflon card or a bondo card to "feel" any debris left on the glass. Spray the glass down lightly again with your window cleaning solution, and wipe the edges down with a strong paper towel like a "shop towel" or similar heavy duty lint free paper towel. Begin squeegeeing the window clean by squeegeeing the top and left edge in one pass, making sure you didn't leave any excess water near the top that could run down. Wipe your squeegee edge with the shop towel and sqeegee left to right starting from the dry area you just made on the left. Repeat until you get as far to the bottom as you can, then use a "conquerer" for cleaning the very bottom of the window. Since the initial cleaning removes almost all contamination if done right, we want it even cleaner, so lightly mist the window again, begin cleaning the window again, but this time don't scrub it, just do a second edge wipe and squeegee to get that last 1% of the dirt right before installation. The same method works well for cleaning the outside of the windows also, though instead of a scrubber, usually a good wipe down with a soapy shop towel before squeegeeing is all that's needed. If you chose to use a window cleaning agent, I recommend Endust for electronincs and a clean paper towel, followed up by a clean, dry microfiber towel for cleaning any streaks that form as the windows dry. |
