A window shade is a covering for a window, mounted to the inside of a window. It is any device used to shade or to reduce sunlight and heat. Types of shades include: Slat window shades, are made up of horizontal, flat slats made of metal, vinyl or wood. The shade slats connect with a cord so that they can be tilted to let light pass through, tilted up to shade the light, or tilted level or down to allow more light. The window shades can be adjusted with a cord, a long handle conected to s spindle or a cord. There are also motorized window shades that can raise the shades or tilt them from a single control. Window Shades are also refered to as Venetian blinds, basic slatted blind, miniblinds, a venetian style blind with thinner slats, track blinds, stiff fabric, plastic, or metal hanging in a row from a rail. The slats may be pulled back to one side. Solid window shades, that roll up are one solid piece of opaque or colored clear vinyl, the are also refered to as roller shades. Some of these shades are pleated and fold up instead of roll up. Pleated window shades may also be made with 2 layers to create an insulating pocket of air.
