I will go from a backwards shop now (waiting room in rear), to a proper storefront entrance to lobby/waiting room with wall completely separating install from showroom. I'm stoked edit = OH YEAH!!! I will also have air conditioning

No. I hadn't mentioned it yet,, but I am planning on moving The TiNT STOP back to my old location where I was in 2010 - 2017. The old shop didn't last two years after I left, and they are now gone. So the toxicity that was there from them is also gone. The new owner of the property came to me and asked me to move back and I've been trying to figure out a way to make it work. The level of traffic that passes by that location VS the one where I am now is tremendously different. New customer frontage will go WAY UP. So, we decided to just go ahead and ask straight up if we can be let out of the rest of our lease. Gotta find out one way or another what I'm up against. If they say yes, a 60 day notice is fine, then great. If they decide to make me fulfill the full year that is left, then I will have to find someone else to move in, so that I can move out without any penalties. So here's hoping.

Try tacking it in a u shape following defrost lines instead of straight across, and shrink top first. Leave room for error and maybe leave a finger or 2 on your sides if you're close to finishing. Heat em from the outside after install. @highplains

    Tinting a Full Semi

Wow this sounds like a train wreck I used to travel all over Florida, stayed in one spot 3 to 4 months at a time and then on to the next location. If you get something with a kitchenette it makes life much easier to save on eating, but the major problem is the dog. Finding somewhere cheap enough to make this worth it that will accept a dog is going to be tough. The ones that will accept animals for any length of time are more expensive, therefore blowing your budget. Even if they are paying for the hotel, what if they won't pay for one that will accept a dog. Now you have to board it or cover the cost out of your pocket. Are you paying for (providing) film ? or are they covering that ? Working outside all the time ? there's another issue. I've done enough semi truck tinting to know that it's a lot bigger pain than it seems to be. Compensation for milage should be in there somewhere. Taking a job that will have you that far away from a newborn for that long (you can't finish it before the baby arrives),,,, are you ready for that ? Is it really that much money in the end and going to be worth the headaches ? Not sure of your current job situation, but if it's anywhere close to this amount of money in the end,,, I would pass on this and let someone better suited for it take the headaches. Refer back to the first sentence. This is just my two cents and am only trying to give you some things to consider. Good luck to you whatever you decide.

That's kinda similar to what the sunk cost fallacy addresses, sunk cost is something that you invested in but will never get back, the fallacy is the bias it makes in your decisions. hypothetically say someone has a business, it hasn't made money in 3 years, but he continues on because he's invested time money and effort for 3 years, that's the sunk cost fallacy. The business investment he won't get back is the sunk cost, the fallacy is continuing on influenced by the invested time/money/effort rather than thinking of the future and just saying F it and going on with life and pursue better things. It applies to a lot of decision making.

I have a " point of no return theory " sorta like that. When you reach the half way point on your journey and realize you are on the wrong path, the decision to turn back and start over or try to deal with the rest of the journey ahead can be the most complex decision you have to make.

Influx of installers in the industry?

Manufacturers are desperately trying to encourage existing shop owners to hire and train... the stock pile of future film buyers ...is getting low. Add to that..some of the chain store tint shops are selling a pipe dream to unwitting buyers..only for them to find that once a new hire is trained..they can't keep them locked up in the back room for 8.50 P/H...hence the huge turn over rate. I have said it numerous times before. Being a "tinter" is no different than being a house painter, plasterer, lawn mower, carpet installer, or any other un regulated trade where a legitimate license is not required. .. That also adds to the derelict problem in the labor force. I don't have the actual numbers, although I'm sure corporates have run them...on how many "tinters" are actual businesses as apposed to hobbyists. If I were to guess.. it's 1 in 60.. maybe worse..

Another big helping factor is squeegeeing the window twice. That makes a big difference.

I voted for Trump and i'm a registered republican but i would be to afraid some angry democrat would torch my shop or vandalize it! we live in a civil war time as far as politics are concerned! It's bound to offend someone because there stance is different then yours! I want every ones money! Therefor i make it a point not to talk to anyone about religion or politics while i'm at work! Having a cold beer after work at a bar is a different story though! lol cheers!!
