    The Chat Thread

It is weird, last Saturday was a little slower than normal (retail side) and was a nice day in the 70's. Today, we are super slammed and it is in 50's and raining.

How Much Extra Do You Charge for Front Quarters?

Luckily we haven't anyone act negative about it. We have quoted incorrectly a couple of times where we assumed it was just two rollups. We just let them know it is normally more but we will waive it this time.
  4. Got a question. When you're doing 2 front doors only, how much extra do you charge to do the 2 front quarter windows? We originally were just throwing on $20 bucks to the total. Now we are charging 50% of what our 2 front window price...so say $150 if the 2 doors only are $100. Don't have to give dollar amounts, just looking for a percentage.

CoolVu Window Film | 75/50 Transition

So was contacted by CoolVu today saying this video was "unauthorized". That is all I needed to hear to make my decision on carrying the film or not...it is a hard no. If they tripping about a video that shows virtually nothing, imagine if the film starts having failures and you try to speak out about it. Not to mention the below manufacturer sells the film on Amazon. 🤣🤣

GMC Sierra defective door panels 2014-16

Just grab a bottle of Armor All or another tire/interior dressing, dry the interior and apply a coat. We see this on 1 out of every 10 vehicles we tint, looks identical to your photos.

GMC Sierra defective door panels 2014-16

I'm not getting it, it just looks like the owner put Armor All or equivalent on the door panels. I see this on plenty of vehicles since we do not wrap every door panel. We just dry and reapply a dressing and back to new. We have done hundreds of these trucks with zero issues.

    Gotcha didn't know.

    Solar FX buyer beware.

It makes more sense now since his post was all over the place. Also, not your fault if the shop sold him IRX as a Ceramic film. I see shops promote non-Ceramic films all the time as Ceramic.

    Bad tint job?

We tinted a brand new Infiniti Q50S a couple of months ago. The dealership did some work on it after we tinted it and scratched one of the windows. He told us about it and was going to call when the glass was replaced. He finally calls and comes in with another brand new Q50S, so we have to tint the whole thing again. Apparently, when they had the vehicle waiting for the glass to come in, they backed it into another vehicle. Then they tried to cover it up by repainting the bumper. Luckily the guy caught it and after a whole day of fighting got them to replace the vehicle.

    Bad tint job?

Somone definitely used a razor blade, now was that the tint installer or done before the tint job, who knows. Personally, it seems odd that the tinter was able to tint all the windows with no issue but have an issue there which leads me to believe the tinter did not do it. It is easy to have existing scratches on your glass and not notice them until you tint the windows...the black background makes them stand out. Brand new vehicles from the dealership always have scratches, flaws, etc. Prior to you buying it, it was handled by multiple people from the manufacturing to getting it to the dealership...more hands involved, more chance of damage. This is why when people get Paint Protection on a brand new car, they have to do paint correction first to ensure the paint is in top-notch shape prior to getting wrapped. Once again, have no idea if the tinter did it or not...like said above, may be used a blade on that window to remove a sticker.

    Solar FX buyer beware.

It is definitely a one post situation and most likely will not post again. IMO anyone reading should not take the post seriously unless the person can explain the actual situation behind the complaint since the post contains no actual facts, just hate towards a brand.

    Absolutely, got to stay neutral.

    Solar FX buyer beware.

We have a roll of CarbonFX on vehicles for over 2 years and almost 2 rolls of IRFX on vehicles for just over a year...two of the vehicles are friends of the shop that we see monthly. We've had zero issues or complaints from the customers. The last time I looked at the Accord that is tinted in CarbonFX was maybe 3 months ago and it still looks new. I would like to know why they say it is isn't Ceramic (assuming FXtreme2) because "chips, cracks, creases and bubbles" have nothing to do with the technology of the film.

Heat lamp versus the sun - Same IR?

Honestly, I think that none of the ratings perfectly tell the story of what a film does in the real world. TSER is just the standard go-to rating and the IRR (SIRR) is just popular because you feel the Infrared more. It doesn't count for variables like how the film blocks the heat and I'm sure plenty of others. I leave that for the people that are smarter than me in the window film business. I just know it is not the full story. For example, one of my vehicles had Huper Ceramic 35 on the sides/rear/sunroof and 50 on the windshield. When we switched films, I switched it to 3M Crystalline 40 on the sides/rear/sunroof and 50 on the windshield. Huper Ceramic 35 has 65% TSER and 81% IRR...3M Crystalline 40 has 60% TSER and 97% IRR (full spectrum is somewhere in the mid-'80s). However, I instantly noticed an improvement in performance even though Crystalline has a lower TSER and similar IRR. Another one of our guys did the same change on his car and also felt a big improvement.

Stratos would still be the winner.

Heat lamp versus the sun - Same IR?

Honestly, I don't know much about Johnson films. CTX like most dyed ceramic films will absorb the heat, this is 99% of the market. The reason I bring it up is Stratos has a higher absorption rate since it has 2 layers of ceramic. So it depends on the vehicle being in motion for the air to push the heat away. In reality that is not a big deal unless you are sitting in stop-and-go traffic over an extended period of time.

Heat lamp versus the sun - Same IR?

CTX is our top seller and the performance is good, but not amazing...the current CTX (CTXI) is the 1st generation Pinnacle. Even with that one we never have anyone come back to complain, they usually tell us how much they love it.

Heat lamp versus the sun - Same IR?

As they said, the heat lamp with an IR bulb will show what the films can do with blocking Infrared but the real world will be different. Stratos will still be a huge step up since it is a double-layered Ceramic film...Pinnacle plus a layer of AIR. The downside is both Pinnacle and AIR are high heat absorbing films, especially if combined. So when parked or sitting at a light, you will feel more radiating heat than films like Crystalline that redirect the heat.
  21. Llumar films are always lighter out of the box than the shade listed. For example, 35 out of the box will be closer to 39 for Llumar films. We also carry 3M which tends to hit dead on the shade listed on the box. 3M CS 20 can easily hit 13 once applied on the glass...Crystalline roughly the same. So we always have to take that into consideration when selling the films. 35% is our legal option (GA can hit as low as 29 to be legal), but I have seen 3M CS 35 hit as low as 28 on certain vehicles.
  22. I just had a customer that added on a last-minute sunstrip which I hate offering. Even though we went up on pricing on sunstrips, I think they are such a waste of time. I really wished we just stopped offering them but makes no sense to tell a customer no, we don't do those...it would just sound stupid.

    Global film

I would also look at XPEL especially if you want something that is high-IR like Stratos.

What's Your Most Hated Thing To Tint?

True, we just did a bunch this week at a huge home. Not fun at all.
