It's been a while since I've made it here, and don't see the "classified" section anymore, so I figured this one might work. I opened a new shop last summer, and while it did very well through November (about 40 jobs a month), we've been doing about 3 jobs (auto) a week since then. I didn't have a ton of working capital to throw at advertising which hasn't helped the cause. So, I'm considering throwing in the towel on the auto biz now - mainly since I'm the owner and not the tinter (contract labor sub contracted out). sorry if this is in the wrong place, if so please move it or direct me....there are only 2 tint shops that I know of in the ann arbor area ziebart, and PWT....I was looking for recomendations of a quality shop in this area for my job....I dont trust chains, which is why ziebart is out unless someone knows someone and will vouch...(heck I installed ICE at best buy for years)....PWT did my last job, which was ok on my integra (and I know what a b***h that rear is), but they didnt tint the windows to the ends only the visible, which I think looks tacky as hell..... thanks in advance...

Nobody paid attention to it anyway, so there are no longer posting restrictions in this forum. I had the restriction in place because I felt like people (especially tinters) were taking advantage by advertising on a forum they would not otherwise participate on, but since nobody followed the rule anyway, and it made us look mean constantly chewing these people out, I've decided just to let it go, and open it up to anyone to post ads here regardless of post count, it will be one less aggravation to deal with.

ok, since this new law has been passed in indiana, I got some film for sale.... 40" roll of 'fader" (don't laugh, it was a fad) 95 feet on the roll 20" roll of fader with about 85 feet left. 24" roll of madico onyx 5% with about 90 feet all rolls would be sold for whatever we pay for the film per foot, plus whatever it costs to ship it to ya. we're selling it because it's not legal in indiana anymore, and my supplier won't take back a partial roll of film. thanks in advance, if anyone is interested, please PM me.

Is it mandatory to shift film when cutting?
I stopped side shifting a long time ago. Today the only cut I'll make is the bottom and top edges. Sometimes I'll shift the bottom down before cutting the top if the inside door sweep is low. For the sides I'll use a marker or grease pencil to mark the edges and cut them out on my peel board. One small wiggle can cost a bunch of embarrassment if you gaff a rubber or scar the glass.- 1

PPF Cutting Software
The only software not tied to a specific film manufacturer that I'm aware of is TintTek. They offered both tint and PPF patterns, it's been a number of years since I used them so I can't say what the current pattern quality is but at the time I switched their PPF patterns were hit or miss depending on the application. -

What is the best value plotter to cut PPF and window tints?

Tablet software
I'm not 100% sure so take what I'm about to say with a large grain of salt but what I think you would need to do is have your computer hooked directly to your plotter with whatever software you're going to use and then enable remote access to that computer via your tablet and run it that way.- 1

What did you tint today?
Actually got to work on my personal vehicle for once. 5% over the back, 20% on the fronts, 70% on the windshield and 35% on the pano roof. Also tinted my rear taillights, third brake light as well as the front side headlight markers.- 3

Is it mandatory to shift film when cutting?
It is probably easier to go on youtube and watch some videos but I'll try to explain as best as I can. In a nutshell you want to cut one side of the rolldown, shift the film over by 6-8mm on the same side you just cut, cut the other edge and then shift it back to "center" it (same amount of overlap on both vertical edges), roll the window down and then do your final cut along the top edge. As long as there is no light gaps you are good to go.- 1

I’m in the learning process and many people shift there films quarter of a inch to the left or right. What does that do? I seen the tints on my car done by the dealer and the film doesn’t looked like it was shifted but there’s no light gaps either. -
