Fried my first amp ever last week. It was on the 2018 with Harman Karden premium sound. Never had this problem on any BMW in 6 years. The technician that fixed it said he wasnt sure if it was a new design for the 18's or if it was HK. Either way, I recently bought a soak shield and will be tearing the trunk apart on these in the future. The amp is on the left side like most other cars. The cost of the repair was close to $2000. Sorry I couldnt post sooner..Hope nobody else has fried one!

Over the years we have determined that a problem can occur when tinting this vehicle. We have had at least 4 customers over the years call us saying that a dash light has come on right after we tinted this car. The light has something to do with the SRS safety restraint system and possibly the passenger side front more specifically. The fix is a trip to the dealer to reset the code. Why it happens we found out is when we are ready to install the back window tint, we normally move the seat all the way forward to make room getting in with the large piece of film. Apparently when you move the passenger seat all the way forward, the wiring under the seat get stretched ou…

Had one of these $125K+ cars to tint at BMW of S.F. last week. Boy was it a stressful day. I looked at the door panels and decided I didn't want to risk trying to take it off because it had built in electronic sliding screens. I ended up taping back all the felt trim around the windows and slid the film below the trim. The small quarter glass is very easy. The back glass is not too difficult but with the possiblities of electronics being damaged due to the soap solution running down the rear deck, I decided to squeegee most of the solution upwards and catch it on a rag as well as to the opposite side where there is no electronics. I actually stuffed a bunch of rags …

Bad news. BMW stopped using their typical top panel clips starting in 2020 on the 3- series at least, requiring a full panel removal. I'm not sure about 2019 models yet, but I own a 2018, and that car has the top clips we all know and love. For the 2020, there are 2 screws to remove; one behind the door handle and one under the arm rest (no need to remove the arm rest, it's hard to see underneath there). The perimeter clips are what I call the 'VW' style clips, except for one standard clip. They're the 2- stage panel clips that must be popped out before reassembling the panel on the door. Take care on the brake light,…

This car is cake. Frameless and super easy back window just like every other BMW. Rear brake light pulls out like every other one. There is a fuse panel on right side of trunk but easy to get to so you can cover it up. All in all not a bad car to tint.

These side windows and rear windows always make me question if I need to do more before I install the film. What am I supposed to do wit thes matrix dots on the driver and passanger windows and also the rear windshield across the top?

I tinted one of these a few days ago. I did all of the windows minus the windshield. I was able to pull the sweeps on the front doors by removing the screw under the lock and also the screw in the pull handle. Little tight but easily doable. Trickiest windows were the rear roll ups. They are similar to a 7 Series where the glass goes beyond the trim. I did not remove these sweeps although next time I’d like to look into it. Quarters and rear window are straightforward. I hand cut and there was enough room to cut and shrink the back window without any issues.

I only did the front doors. But for those who remove panels there are screws the all the obvious places, plus one tricky one! It’s under the little piece of trim around the door lock at the top corner. A little pry bar can wiggle the trim out super easily. I believe they were all T20’s, like 7 screws per door no joke. Other than that bottom gasket pulls out no problem. Easy fronts to do.

I searched thru the bmws and haven't seen any post. Is this a hard vehicle. What should I be looking for as trouble areas?

Lovely side windows, typical BMW gasket attachment but the front door hides a small screw under the little plastic cover plate where the door lock plunger goes up and down that should be removed. Just take note carefully where it sits in the home position that this screw marries into. Rear screen is a dog with an overhanging spoiler which doesn't make your day. Big vehicle, lots of film, charge plentiiii. Devil

Hi New on this forum and learning how to tint my own car. The bottom corner seal near the side mirrors are so freaking tight I'm having problems tucking in the film and squeeging out the water is there a trick to this? Another problem i'm having is my window shifts up an inch every time I close the door and would mess up the freshly uncured tint work how do you overcome that problem and what do you tell your customers? I live in Canada and its pretty cold atm to speed up the curing time can I literally take my heat gun and just blast the window for like 20mins to manually cure it instead of waiting for weeks during the winter season for it cure itself? Tha…

Dealership just got the new 8 series 2 door coupe in. Seems simple enough but having never touched one just wanted to check to see if there is anything to watch out for (speaker problems, installation issues etc)

Comes apart similar to the old x5 but without clips on top edge. Also like the current x3 in that top of the panel rolls off the seal and the tweeter is a bit in the way. Still gotta pull some torx bits see pics

2011 X6 Windows - I didnt take sweeps out - if the back has the privacy glass, putting 30 on top will make it literally 15% - pretty easy, make sure you snap them. Fingers still kinda pop up here and there. BG - easy, but you'll need a step stool if you're short like me hahah. DIFFICULTY 1.5/5

I've got one scheduled for Tuesday. Any thing I should be worried about, besides stuffing towels around the amp?

Anyone done one? Any pointers?? Have one scheduled this week.

Any guidance here? Would like to bottom load if possible and want to know if I need to worry about any stuff in the trunk. Looked for some stuff on Youtube and WikiPedia but BMW and all their damn letters and numbers make finding good info a little of a chore.

Hi guys. Have any of you tinted a BMW E30 before? How did you do the rear side windows? Did you pull the glass? Haven't had a chance to look at the car yet, it's coming in tomorrow.

2015 BMW 650I Convertible

Hello all.... Anyone have any recommendations on the best way to tint the newer BMW 650I Convertibles? Just picked up 2 new BMW dealerships and was taking a look around at all the different models, taking my usual notes on each model (saves times to share when you have others working with you) and was looking at the new model 650I Convertible. First off the door panels are covered in leather, so want to be cautious there as well as don't really want to have to remove the door panels on these if I don't have to, although there are a ton of electronics in these cars. Was thinking maybe 2" Blue Painters tape on the top of the doors and rear windows to keep the felt b…

I have one of these in on Saturday and I'm a little worried I'll have the same issue as I had with the last BMW I tinted (7 series). I had around 20 peanuts/smilies on the 7 series no matter what I did. Does anyone know if the 3 series is prone to this? I'm aware I can use steel wool to help this problem but still a little anxious. Thanks ????

Has anybody had problems with brand new BMW X5s and tinting the front Windows? On multiple occasions I have had either the driver or passenger side roll down instead of up when I pull the switch up, and not letting me stop it thus ruining the template.

Ok so I've done about 5 or 6 of these cars this year, the regular model and the M4. My problem is that literally every single one I do comes back after a few days because it's peeling. Every single 4 series. It doesnt always happen on both windows which makes me confused even more. I really dont know I'm doing wrong. Anyone have any tips on this car? Do you cut it shorter/longer than a normal frameless car?
Last reply by no ma'am, -
Redesign. Spoiler shrouds back window like X1/5, has felt sides now. Front doors easier to pull sweeps just pull tweeter first. Back door now has full length sweep kind of bitch to get out (see pics)

I may not have dug deep enough but I'm having some trouble with this car. Towards the front of the door is about 3 inches with very limited access to close light gaps. Does anyone know an easier way to go about doing these back doors with the privacy screens?
