what plotter size to buy for best PPF yield? 1 2

New to the forums and working on getting a new PPF instalation company started and was wondering what size plotter you would recommend that would give me the best nestablility and yield of the kits per roll. I am leaning towards getting a Graphtec FC8000 just not sure if the 100 size or 130 is the better one to pruchase. the 100 will take a 48" wide roll with a cut area of 42" and I believe, the 130 will take up to a 60" wide roll I think with a 54" wide cut area. or, is it better to get a smaller one? havent narrowed in on a specific cut program so haven't been able to look at cut program files and try and rearrange and modify the programs for best nesting and yield.…

I have a car with black metallic paint that has already been coated with Opticoat Pro+ and I’m considering putting Xpel Ultimate over the top followed by another coat of optiocoat over the PPF. (yes I am aware the most install coating over film instead of under it). The PPF business near me says PPF installation over the opticoat will void all warranty from all PPF manufactures and has in fact gone on to say they only fix major installation defects and should not expect a flawless install. I am grateful for his candid advice by the way. Questions: 1. Since the Xpel installer has said warranty is void and only major defects will be corrected, I wanted to know what…

I hate removing film, always rips my knuckles up. I always were gloves (motocross ones work nice) but even then it can still cause blisters. Today I tried something new and sprayed the areas that get ripped up with New Skin, a spray on liquid bandage. Just removed a full front on a 17 Macan and no blisters! Not saying it was the difference in my hands coming out undamaged, but I will certainly use it for future removals.

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone has tips or some sort of process you execute in order to not have water bubbles in your ppf. I'm told if the size of the bubble is smaller than a nickel it will go away through the heat of the sun. If the bubble is bigger than a nickel it needs to be popped using a needle. Please let me know your thoughts and any tips that work for you. Thanks a lot!

this customer came in today. we tinted his car this summer. cool guy. without checking with us he bought a PPF kit for his Porsche 928. then called us to install it. I said sure no problem...no warranty. well the kit was total shiat. oooooooold PPF obviously....would scratch up like a mofo just by barely squeegeeing it. didn't stick worth a crap. the kit didn't fit worth a crap and ontop of that the kit came with 2 driver's side kits for the mirrors rather than both sides. I called him and said no go...I'm not going to turn out crap like this. there's no computercut kit available for a 928 so he had me make up a kit using our clearshield (using the kit he got)…

My 3M reps came in today to show me their new ppf. My overall impression is so/so. Top coat is excellent. It is clearer and no more orange peel. Film is not as rigid as before. The top coat healing clarity was the best part. Now the bad......when I pulled the film from the liner the glue had a strong solvent Odor to it. Glue stressed easier than I like on contours. Lastly and alarming to me was after I did an initial tack and squeegee out and came back to area. I put my hand on the film and pushed. THE ENTIRE AREA FLOATED AROUND like an edge that gets water on it and gets loose. It took a while to tack. I am 3m certified and use a lot of films (venture, xpel, Suntek, n…

I recently took my tesla to get a full front clear bra with xpel and just got it back yesterday. Overall the xpel film itself is fantastic but the install was less than satisfactory. On the drive home one of fender side cameras fell completely off and was hanging. They tried to fix it by using double sided tape but i believe its supposed to be clipped in. Then when i got home i saw some of the edges lifting. And today theres more lifting and i just realized the cameras that were taped had clips that were damaged so that is why it did not attached. Its so frustrating they had it for 3 days i paid 1800 for it and they ended up damaging it. I dont know whether i should just …

Working at a dealership as a single installer that has to do all the prepping, cutting patterns, installing, heat sealing and cleaning of the car working an 8 hour shift I usually do 2 full fronts a day but when it comes to having to wrap an entire car they only give me a day because of having cars the next days on the schedule with that being said I have to wrap an entire car and change the gloss of the car to matte (satin) and using patterns instead of bulk to hide more of the gloss because of time I only have to do it which is in a day that’s a lot of work ,what would be the proper time they should allow me to have to get that car done right? We have bought a new Japanese brand called Sakurai, it is good material, the only problem is that they apply 35 micron of adhesive layer instead of the usual 25 micron adhesive layer, this cause masses of adhesive material to form in some spots beneath the film after application. Anyone have a solution for this problem?!

I'm at the point where I'm completely unnerved by this problem and I'm not sure what to do! I prep every vehicle that I work on with 3 different solutions that strip the wax off of the edges. It's not my first rodeo. I thought I'd developed a fool proof system, and to be fair, it works on every other brand. And then I'll get these BMWs back, usually within a week to a couple months, and they've blown a whole piece of film off. Or a lot of pieces of film off. And when I go to remove it, it peels off like there wasn't even glue there. I've had an issue on certain BMW headlights for a long time where they release static and it messes with the glue, cr…

Hello - I was pointed to this forum from audizine for wrap/chrome delet suggestions. Does anyone have any recommendations in the East Bay for black vinyl chrome delete? Specifically looking in Walnut Creek / Concord / Lamorinda. I am interested in doing a chrome delete / black vinyl wrap for the chrome trim (around windows, side mirrors, rear diffuser, etc.) on my Audi S5 Sportback. Related to this, also looking to have the crash bar behind the front grill wrapped (looking put the black RS style honeycomb style grill on in the future, and understand the gray metal will show through, so a lot of people have painted / wrapped / powder coated / other measures to…

Hi, I have a quick question for all which I cannot seem to find an answer for. I have my car wrapped with PPF and I want to install a very light spoiler lip on the trunk. Is there any issues with attaching the spoiler lip with 3M tape on top of PPF? I suppose it will only be as strong as PPF, and that if one day I want it off there is a good possibility the PPF will be damaged.

If you like vehicles of all sorts you have probably come across Larry's Channel Ammo NYC. I trust this vid is going to push sales of PPF to be installed places other than some of you are used to. Cheers

Hello Everyone, new to this site and also new to installing Paint protection. There is a weird mark that i am not sure what it is underneath the paint protection film. The piece was difficult to install so do not want to redo unless i have to. I used a small amount of xpel gel, slip solution and diluted alcohol. Was curious if someone new what this was.

I'm trying to ask around and see the best pay structure for a PPF installer. I am currently an installer for a group of dealerships and feel like I am being underpaid, or at least not making nearly as much as some of the others I have heard. It's not uncommon from what I know that a good handful of installers average around 100k a year, is this true? I get paid flat rate and receive 6hrs for a extended hood/fenders protection etc, and 4hrs for a half. I am fairly quick and can produce some good work but from asking around is seems low, one place even said some Full Packages (extended front) get up to 12hr depending on the vehicle. What else is everybody out there making? …

Been detailing for a long time and have started testing the PPF waters. I've been experimenting with different slip/install solutions. One issue I'm having is with the Xpel gel. No matter how diligent I am with my squeegee I end up with gel pockets. Wondering if these will dissipate over time? They are about the size of a dime or nickle. Baby shampoo slip seems to be much friendlier and easier to squeegee out but I keep hearing that gel is better for beginners. What am I missing?

Ive been installing for bout 18 years now, Suntek prob 10 years... Love the film, very forgiving, awesome finish(sometimes better than clearcoat on paint!) but lately Ive been having edges come up like crazy. It would normally take more than that for red flags, but I also noticed my squeegee not gliding as smoothly as usual, AND i feel like I've had to reduce my soap substantially to get effective sticking even in just tight grooves and corners, not just wrapped eges... Maybe some corners had to be cut during manufacturing? Ordering film was kinda tough there for a minute during the quarantine so maybe ya... Or is it just me? Please, if anyone else has not…

Hello all. I wanted to ask you for help. Yesterday I picked up a car from a detailing studio that installed ppf foil on my car. I do not know anything about it, but I am not satisfied with the service. I want to ask for your opinion. Each element has bubbles, visible rubbish under the foil, stretch marks and badly cut elements, especially at the corners. Installers say that dirt, dust, garbage and human hair under the foil are normal things. Multiple stretch marks are also normal. I attach photos. What do you think? https://ibb.co/2PSQ9f2 https://ibb.co/SddRWVN https://ibb.co/p3nJkK4 https://ibb.co/84rRcF3 https://ibb.co/tsN0…

So I sometimes will need a simple rectangle with rounded corners for the door steps, where your shoes could scuff the area where you step into the vehicle. I measure it and then design it quickly with inkscape, or the GreatCut program that comes with the GCC plotters. I like this to be a pattern so that it matches from the drivers side to the passenger side and it's simple. Or, I make a pattern for the B pillars on cars/suv vehicle, where your hand grabs the back of the drivers door when you swing it closed. Don't see this included in a lot of patterns out there. I never use full bumper patterns, but I do use patterns for the trim pieces if they…

Hello, just wanted to see what you thought the pros and cons of going with Suntek Ultra over the regular PPF are especially considering I will be getting Ceramic Pro 9H coating and light coat over the whole car? Is the only difference between the Suntek films the hydrophobic properties and length of warranty or is clarity and durability different? If so, isn’t the hydrophobic difference a moot point if you also get ceramic coating? The cost is about 15% extra for the ultra.

This needs to be on it's own thread. I'd like Norm and some of the other ppf guys to try this product. Contact Speed for a sample! This is my review I copied from the other thread. Speed Films sent me some of his tack solution and I must say it's a game changer IMO. I have used it on mirrors, headlights, superduty hoods multiple times now, edges for wrapping and a freshly resprayed bumper edge. It is NOT Probond! Far less aggressive, yet still helps out tremendously when you need a little bite on a stretch. I'm not a chemist and didn't ask about what's in it, but I know it works for ppf. I sprayed about a dime sized amount on a microfiber and wiped the areas gene…

Hey everyone, had a lot of prior luck reading this forum and wanted to get your advice on a recent PPF install on my 2020 Q50 Sport. I used an independent shop that I was given a referral to from an Infiniti dealer in my hometown. Looked up all of the guy's work and it looked great. He had pictures on his instagram working on cars from all foreign dealerships in the area, and other cars such as McLaren Sennas, LaFerrari'ys, Aventadors, etc. So I figured he was the best to go for the install. He charged me $1000 (cash) for a partial hood, front bumper, mirror caps, etc..which was more than the other quotes I received, but I always figured that the premium may be worth it i…
