If you don't want to be affiliated with such company's like (3M, Xpel, SunTek, etc) but don't mind paying for a monthly or yearly subscription without needing to install their particular product(film), is there a company that some may know who can direct us in the PPF installation industry? I figure there has to be some genius somewhere out there that can make tons of money making their own software. If not, I wish I could be that genius. Haha Thanks for reading!

I've heard from people that it is unprofessional to use adhesive promoter / primer when closing the edges and corners? What are the risks? Is it possible to not use bonding promoters, but seal the edges and corners and not having to worry about lifting?? Thanks!

I had XPEL Stealth applied to my magno grey Mercedes E63s. A few days after installation we noticed the film lifting off in the high tension area around the headlights. I worked with my installer to have the bumper re-done, but a few days later we have the same issue. My installer informed me that this is a very common issue with AMG E63 and C63 models because of that harsh line around the headlights. I confirmed this with other AMG owners as many of them have the same issue. Has anybody else here experienced this issue and maybe even has a solution? My installer has been very accommodating trying to find a solution that's satisfactory to me, and …

Knock on wood, not sick here and haven't been for a long time. As a matter of fact, I've only gotten sick one time in twenty years of installing PPF and that happened when we were snowed in years ago here in Atlanta. That made me start wondering if breathing ISO fumes all day might have something to do with it. The week we were snowed in, I obviously wasn't doing installs and not breathing in any ISO and got the flu. So the question is, how is everyone? Could ISO fumes be keeping us safe or have I just been lucky?

Good day all, I just joined this forum to exchange and gain the right knowledge from the right people. I had this idea since the start of PPF in my country (around 2010 or so) to buy my own material online then give to a professional to install (labor charge is cheap here). The prices that shops take for say full hood, bumber and fenders coverage is almost $1,300 (Conservative 3M shop). However, am almost certain that the material is not original. Therefore, we would you advise me to buy online an authentic 3M or suntek roll that will cover a full sedan. My plan is to get front coverage for 2 cars and bits and pieces around door edges and fuel tank…

Hello everyone! I am from Russia and my company is creating digital PPF patterns for car interiors. By this moment, we have made PPF patterns for 120 cars and continue to create them. Unfortunately, in Russia this service is poorly developed, and I think, maybe there are specialists on this forum who are interested in our patterns? Please do not judge strictly, I do not know English well and could publish the topic in the wrong section. But I will be happy to answer your questions!

I read on another thread about the big turnover with installers for PPF. I am left to wonder if that is just a minority opinion or do the majority of installers feel there are a lot of people that don't make it. I am asking because before I invest $6000 for a new plotter, $3000 for initial product, $1000 for training. Marketing, dedicated work computer, design software etc... It looks to be a $15,000 investment. I've been installing tint for 30 years but only as a side job and never as a serious sole-proprietor entrepreneur. Talking to the regional managers in a few of the major film companies, they have mentioned what it takes to become an authorized…

Hi guys. I just got an entire car PPF installation done on my new Tesla Model S two weeks ago and it's starting to develop issues. I went back to the installer and he claims these are normal. Just wanted to get your feedback whether this is truly the quality of installation I should expect?

I have a few questions regarding PPF, I just picked up this ATS coupe and I am considering installing PPF, not sure if I will give it a try myself or not. I have used it before and have some in stock but never on a vehicle, so my questions are for the pros on here. What parts of the car should I consider installing it on and how hard is it removing bugs on PPF, I get a lot of them and that is a big concern of mine after installing it.

Vinegar as PPF tack solution 1 2 3
by Guest Henry Yu- 22 replies

Does anyone here use vinegar as a PPF tack solution? I’ve been using it lately after switching from alcohol and it’s great but I noticed that there will be some blotches under the film. However, they seem to all go away after a few days. I usually dilute it a bit but not sure if I need to dilute it more. Anyone else have this happen to them? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you

So for cleaning the car pre-install, or to fill your spray bottles, what type of filter system are you guys using? This would run before a pressure-washer. I had a reverse osmosis system when I was in Dallas that worked great but wondering if there is anything new and improved? If you like one in particular, plz let me know, with a link maybe? Thanks! Best way to lay large panels solo?
by Guest Henry Yu- 3 replies

Can anyone give me some tips on how to lay a large piece of bulk film such as a hood solo? I usually have someone help me hold the film up, spray it, and then transfer it to the car but I’ve been working by myself lately with no one around. I just want to make sure I’m minimizing as much contaminants as possible. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So for the occasional film removal, which steamer do you guys generally like best? I've seen those at the SEMA show that pretty much blast steam out of a pretty thin nozzle at the end of a hose. I've typically in the past used either an old Wagner square box steamer that takes a while to heat up, but didn't do too bad once it gets going. I've also used the good old Jiffy garment steamer which gets going faster than the Wagner, but again the steam just eases out of the nozzle.

Does anyone know how to tackle the Tesla Model 3 front bumper in one piece? I’m having trouble near the fog light/vent area and want to avoid having to seam it. I’ve seen a few people who were able to do it and was wondering how they got it done. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’m a ten year installer and have used 3M, XPEL, STEK and have been using Suntek exclusively for the past five years. The first 8 months everything was fine, adhesive was great, no blemishes no comebacks. Then all of a sudden almost every roll there with issues with blemishes and dead adhesive where it wouldn’t even stick glue side to glue side. This went on for months until it was escalated to the North American sales manager. To fix the problem I was told it would be noted in my account that I was to receive rolls with the highest master roll number and that it would go through a secondary quality inspection. Wether this is just BS or not I…

Need some assistance on fixing a wrapped edge that is lifting on a rear wheel well. Assuming we can clean the debris from the pealed edge, I'm looking for the best remedy to fix it. Considering its a whole quarter panel on a newer Camaro, replacement is not an option. We're using XPEL Ultra and we used Xpel surface prep, though it seems we may have been using this wrong. Previously we've wiped all edges with this before hand and let it dry. I'm getting the impression from some earlier posts that maybe we should apply it just prior to install of the edge and use it wet????? So knowing that we only have one shot to get this right: 1…

Hey nice forum, I'm from Germany and I'm looking for a way to create PPF patterns yourself. I myself have already tested a little and got ApplicationTape (German word) and applied this to the surface. Then I draw the edges with a flexible ruler and scan the sketch. Then I vectorize this in Adobe Illustrator and cut the PPF film with our Summa D160 plotter. Does anyone of you know how to do this with more complex components and simulate the stretching of the film so that the pre-set fits later? Thanks for your answers... :) In the attachment my simple pattern test.

just a heads up , the new porsche headlights are removable. the car has a switch where you can lift the front about 2more inches for access. the inner liner needs to be removed (11 screws- 4 at the bottom , 7 in the wheel area ) , or dropped to have access for the 2 bolts that holds the headlight. no bumper removal needed. after all the bolts area removed , you will need help when pulling the headlight, one person push from inside and second holds it in the front. also masking tape should be used around the headlight before removal. the inside front bottom of the headlight has a pin that slides into a small track. (in pic marked with red)

Hi everyone, I was looking for a PPF forum that had this product installed already as I figured someone may have had a similar issue. Having a horrible experience with a PPF install that went wrong for someone I know, the whole car is peeling, knife mark, film doesn't meet the edge of panels and isn't uniform some is tucked some isn't. Installer said they would fix it then would respond intermittently about when to bring the car back. After the knife mark and the poor quality of the install you would see why someone would be hesitant. I tried contacting the manufacturer which directed us back to the installer end of last year. Then a bad game of phone tag when…

Goodmorning to all. We are expecting the first roll of JPP as it was only released recently, we have a Summa cutting machine and we used to cut 3M VentureShield and PPF with it. Now we are looking for a software that will operate without a serial roll number, as Johnson roll numbers will not be useful I assume. We are looking to purchase and download a European cars software that will have proper updates with new models. Please advise, thank you!

I'm curious to find out the different approaches you guys take to do the hood of a Super Duty with the stamped letters. Pre-cut kits have the letters cut out which must suck to line up the edges of each letter. Doing bulk, its nearly impossible to mold the PPF into every crevice. So what's your approach?

PPF Software with Edge Wrap function/option/tool 1 2
by Guest Nas- 14 replies
- 3.2k views
Hi All, This is my first post in the forum. I would like to ask which software available that have an "Edge-Wrap" functionality? Some customers prefer to have the film wrap around the edge of the body part for a complete 100% coverage. One of the many requests is to have the film wrap around the front edge of the hood. Another example is the fender wheel walls. I was able to find that TruCut has this functionaly. Thanks
