Hi guys. I have thought about getting into PPF installations in the past, being a window tinting company but never made the move to take it on. I had a friend of mine come to me today with his Lotus Elise and some pre cut PPF from 3M for his rear wheel arches. They were supposed to be pre cut to fit but were miles away so with some marking a trimming we got a good fit and they went on pretty easy. He was very happy. I'm seriously thinking of getting into it full time but have a few questions. We applied this 3M film with just a soapy water, are all films like that these days because we saw a demo day about 3 years ago where it was being applied with some sort of alcoh…

Okay I used new updated VentureSheild. I am having a prob with hazing just like a cold weather install on window film. Is this norm? Also after squeegeing and letting it sit in the sun, after about 1.5-2 hours I get water bubbles 2-3 on a bumper is that normal? I am using 8-10 drops of soap and a capful of 70% Isopropyl and the rest water. I squegee very heavy. Venture shield PPf. Alcohol to prep the paint surface and to also "cure" the film. I am sure that the Haze is in the adhesive not the top coat. Any help is much appreciated

Alright this is more for the shop owners but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to teach me PPF installs and I could possibly pull my weight in tint for your shop in exchange. I am in Indiana and of course would need to have someone out of state to teach me. I can do all one piece back glass and micro edge finishing. I really can tint and would love to learn PPF just cant afford to learn from mistakes. Please do take this seriously I will travel and cover all my own expenses any takers please post or emai me shwusyrtnts@msn.com

Ventureshield Rolls/Bulk

Hello! I was going to mess around with installing my own clear bra. I had an installer do it awhile back and I feel he rushed it and did an okay job. There really isn't anywhere else to get the ventureshield film installed in the Portland, OR area. Does anyone know where I can purchase rolls of ventureshield (similar to how you can select the length of a given width of 3Ms film on xpel.com)? I'd like to be able to purchase just enough to custom wrap my hood, bumper, fenders, mirrors, and rear bumper. I'm not forced to use ventureshield, but I've heard that it's clearer then 3ms film. Thanks for the help!!

PPF QUESTIONS... 1 2
by Guest momo- 11 replies

Hello everyone I?m back with a few more questions. I was out today trying to find someone with a printer, who would be willing to cut some PPF patterns for me. I found a guy willing, but he would like to know first 1) What type of blade to use for cutting the film? 2) At what angle to set the blade? He is going to charge me either a flat rate or $30 a hour, depending on how long it takes him to cut the film and if it damages his blades. Can anyone tell what the average time is for cutting a kit? And does it damage the blade? I need to buy the software. It sounds like everyone likes the venture shield software. Does it work on 3M and the other PPF? What should I be expec…

??? Spray on Paint Protection ???
by Guest TS Bounty- 4 replies
I am inquiring about a product I have heard about. It is either called Armor Coat or Armor Guard, it is supposably sprayed on and acts just as 3M would act Protecting the paint against stone chips and the such. I have questions in my mind though. How well does it work , if I get chips do I have to remove the entire product or just the area of the chip? How thick is it? How is it maintained? What happens if it gets chipped. I have owned an RV for 4 yrs with 3M on it and love what that product has accomplished. Is this the next best option. Would like to hear response from the people in the business, So that is why I am posting in this forum. Thank you in advance Sincerely…

ppf 06 350Z
by Guest ShadyKat- 3 replies
- 1.8k views
06 350Z There is not a Deluxe ClearShield kit out for this car yet and I was wondering (after looking at an 05) if anyone has attempted to use the 05 pattern. I looked at both of them this afternoon and the only noticeable difference was the dip in the center of the lower cross piece and the 06 was set back at a sharper angle. Basically nothing that two snips with a pair of scissors and adding a little extra material on the lower cross piece for some margin of error, which could be easily hand trimmed. The standard kit is the same for both years and the customer is really wanting that lower facet covered. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks If this needs to be …

Starting out with ppf and really looking to do a good job after some practice. Need to get the basics right though. When preparing the paited surface for application with venture shield - how would you suggest I clean the surface ( not a brand new car ). For instance do I need to clay it after a good wash down etc?????? Is there a way to ensure that dirt wont creep in under the trimmed edges? Last question: soapie dishwashing solution or Johnson baby shampoo?

Paint protection film 1 2
by Guest sa tinter- 16 replies

Been doing the tinting thing and still learning a lot - but have to broaden my scope of work and thus bought a plotter / cutter and some paint protection film ( venture shield ) for autos as used in Nascar and other racing. Been praticing and experimenting with off cuts though Getting a few 940 KTM Adventure bikes - two weeks time. Any tips or tricks from the old hands on the application of the templates on these bikes and other autos- especially when it comes to preparation of the surfaces and managing the curves and edges. Know this is mostly a tinting forum - but I am sure a lot of you are blades of many trades!!

Hi all, Looking at the possibilities of adding PPF to my portfolio. Anyone in the UK have experience of it - ie. where to get the templates and the film etc. I have a 54" and an 18" roland plotter and running vinylmaster pro which will inport most formats for cutting. Also what's it like to install? Do you use transfer/application tape . Does it shrink like wrapping film? Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Cheers Joe

Clearshield question

Clearshield installers, Today I had a car come back, it was an infinity G35. The Hood and mirrors had foggy lines in the film that ran side to side. The film had been on the car for 2 weeks and had plenty of time to cure. The bumper was perfect but only the hood and mirrors were the prob. Has anyone heard of this or come across this situatuion. Is this a streching problem with the film. I have extemely happy with material so far. Any help is great...
