I have a buddy who wants to try this stuff vs Suntek?! But it's his vehicle. Anyone tried it and have feedback? It will be easier to wrap hood edges I'm thinking since it goes on dry.

What's the consensus out there for what is the easiest to install? install in terms of stretch, fingering etc? Also, any other cutting software out there that's comparable to DAP? We do part time on weekends and have been doing it for over 1.5 years. Not much and still learning but wanted to get some additional help. Probably done 50 plus cars We've been trained with XPEL and using their films and DAP - they're great no issues except not a very helpful rep at this time. No names here but he is kind of call customer service for everything guy and never wants to help. Anyhow, looking around and want to know what all you installers are doing w/…

What to charge?

I'm new to the full wrap game. I have dabbled with pieces before, but I'm not really sure what industry standards are for installation costs. Materials are provided to me by the company I work for, but we are trying to figure out a cost for installation, since I'll have to work on it after hours because our shops aren't very hospitable. I'm doing a white Jeep Grand Cherokee and I'm kind of lost for what to charge. Thank you for any input.

Any good for european market? Does it have to be used with suntek film only? What are my options for a good ppf software that isn’t tied with a specific manufacturer? Thanks in advance, Roy

Hello all, I am currently looking for exact opposite of the typical smooth, dirt repelling, self-cleaning, water-sliding film which is the dream of every PPF applicator and user. For my application I need something rubbery and "sticky" to the fingers when You slide them on the surface, kind of like the old PPFs were back in the day (from what I've heard at least, I wasn't applying PPFs back then). This is for special application on a superbike tank pad where normal good quality PPF is too slippery and does not give You enough grip when in corners etc. Can You recommend a film that might be most suitable? Of course would be best if it still had self-healing proper…

I'm starting to venture into PPFs now. I've been using Xpel from 44tools and it's costing me way to much from a starting point. Any pointers to where to get some supplies? Any schools or training in the SF Bay Area that offers classes? I'm probably wasting more material and time than I need to.

Not sure which forum I should post this to, hopefully this is okay I had ppf installed about a month ago and all was good. Recently noticed this slightly hazy effect on the hood. It's only noticeable at certain angles and under the right light, but if you look at the reflection of the light bulb on the hood, you can see a slight hazy effect there. It extends across that same horizontal plane across the hood. Thought maybe it was some unwiped detailer but it didn't come off. Going back to the installer in a week as they're fully booked till then, but was wondering if anyone knew if this may be part of the curing process? The installer said they'd ha…

So my single biggest retail custer account wants me to cover most of his vehicle on a Mercedes G63 that already has matte paint on it. I want to jump off a cliff now. Anyone put matte film on matte paint? It seems to me that 1. It won't stick as well because of the surface being micro-textured. 2. If you make a mistake, it is likely to 'change' the matte paint a bit just from having adhesive stuck to the paint, since that stuff is so dang sensitive. (No waxing, buffing, quick detail, drive-through car washes, etc...) 3. It's a stinking G63.. Ugh, the ugliest piece of vehicle ever to come from Germany.

So I have car that came from Dubai. Its wrapped in what I thought was ppf. Its glossy but hard. Pulling it off and it looks like pure overlaminate. But the entire car is done and the install is actually really clean lol. Has anyone even seen this on cars overseas, China, UAE, India? Or is it old film thats breaking down? Theres no stretch to it when cool. And even weirder, one panel was painted over and it looked good smh.

I've been working on a Mazda CX-5 doing full hood, fenders and bumper. The first fender I did there were lots of tiny dots showing through the film. First thought was contamination in the film, but they didn't move when I moved the film. But I tried a new piece anyway. Same issue. I then used a synthetic clay to clay the hell out of the fender, most of the spots remained however it was significantly better. Moving on to the remainder of the panels, I had this happen EVERYWHERE I put film. I spent about 3 hours using the medium grade synthetic clay towel on the whole front clip and had spots show all over. I'm assuming it's just paint issues since it's multiple sec…

Fender full wrap kit - does it wrap into the wheel well edges? 1 2 3
by Guest Adam- 20 replies
- 3.5k views
I'm looking to DIY PPF for my car and was wondering how the 'Full Wrap' pieces, such as the 'Full Wrap' fenders, wrap into the wheel wells. Do these patterns wrap into the wheel well edge? If so, how well does that stick? Or does the pattern only wrap into the top and right hand side edges but not the wheel well? I'm assuming it's probably NOT a good idea to wrap into the wheel well ~1/8" edges since continual exposure to dirt would cause it to lift at some point? Thanks in advance for commentary.

This video attempts to answer the question: "Does PPF thickness affect long-term durability?" Your intuition would say, yes. The thicker the film, the more it will protect the underlying paint. Thinner films are easier to install and cost less, because you are getting less material and possibly, less protection. The 3M Automotive and Aerospace Solutions Division is ISO9001 certified which allows us to supply products to automotive OEM customers. It is an extremely rigorous standard that provides the structure to consistently offer products that meet customer, statutory, and regulatory requirements. I'm curious if anyone has first hand experience with Clearshield installed on new vehicles before purchase. I originally planned to get Xpel installed at authorized installer nearby, but 2019 Toyota 4Runner already has Clearshield on half the hood, back of mirrors, door edges, and cups of door handles. I thought about paying $500 more to get Front bumper done at Toyota. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I recently picked up a Jaguar plotter and am looking into software to cut PPF. I know DAP is said to be the king of all software's but xpel isn't my go to film and I'm told I need to order Xpel film to use DAP. I use Stek and prefer to stick with it. Other than tru cut is there any software someone recommends? Any thoughts on a software called "Film and Vinyl Designs"? Thank you.

I see some installers leave Porsche hood emblem and wrap the hood. Not sure if they cut out the emblem (thin hood emblem not the thick ones) later on. I always remove the emblems before install and put it back with 3m double tapes (if they are not speed nut type). But I see some installer leave the emblems and do the install. Is this something most installer do? For Corvette C7 Grand sport, there are decals on both front fenders from factory, I remove them and wrap the fenders then put brand new decals back. I see some of them just wrap the fenders without removing the decals. Is this how most of you do? I'm sure there will be some air pock…

Dear all, I am wondering if You have an experience in PPF films being certified by specific countries goverment agencies for use on headlamps? I am not talking about the tinting films for headlamps but standard clear PPFs. I have wrapped many cars lamps and I know pass yearly technical car reviews in flying colors, otherwise the owners would come back to me. But the question is, does the PPF manufacturers certify their films by independent car institutes like TUV or DEKRA in Germany, or corresponding ones in another countries? I have one particular client who asked me not only if it will pass the yearly technical test (which I know it will) but als…

Hello all PPF experts: I'm a newbie at all of this. Last month I got my new Tesla Model 3 and I decided to wrap its hood and fenders myself. I purchased 2 pieces of 3M Scotchguard Pro from 2 different Ebay vendors (many of you probably cringe this point), and long and behold, the two films that I received are different. The two sheets feel very similar, but the backing sheets are clearly different in opacity. Upon closer inspection, the sheet with the more opaque backing is more rough, as seen by the reflection of the light bulb in the second photo. So my question for all esteemed experts on this forum. Do anyone know how I can tel…

Long time lurker finally seeking help from all you wonderful installers! So I have a customer who wants to wrap an entire 2019 Tesla Model 3 in Matte Paint Protection Film. This will only be my second full car wrap in PPF and I’m just a little unsure on how to go about doing it. The last full car I did was an 2019 Mercedes AMG last month which wasn’t really a big deal since I had a kit for almost the entire car, plus I wasn’t worried about covering every single inch of paint considering I wasn’t trying to turn the gloss paint matte. So I’m just wondering if anyone’s done an entire gloss car in matte film before? I don’t particularly want to hand cut the entire car but I’m…

I'm using xpel film with super tacky adhesive, which I have grown to love as I've had zero problems with warranties and lifting, but I'm looking for a squeegee that can really drive out moisture. The only squegees that have been working well for me is the red baron and blue max without a handle. Only problem I'm having is that the red baron has almost no flex and the blue max hurts my wrist and is somewhat directional. Do you guys know of any squeegees with the power of the red baron but the flexibility of the thinner blue max, or a way to "break in" the red baron?

Hey Guys, I am new to this forum and I was dwelling on this website for a couple of weeks! I currently do a lot of detailing work, mostly high-end detailing. I specialize in paint correction and ceramic coating vehicles. However, a lot of my clients want ppf done on their personal vehicles and so I am working with a mobile ppf specialist. In the near future, I would want to add this in to my arsenal due to the fact that the mobile ppf specialist is sometimes busy on the days I need cars filmed. My question is, is ppf profitable? How long does it really take to master ppf?
