Ticket with exemption 1 2 3 4

Hey guys. I'm new around here, I am a member of several car forums and the likes. I need some assistance. My father has a car (several) with a tint exemption. I was driving one back in February and received a ticket for tint. I presented the exemption slip when asked why I had dark tint, and told him the car was my fathers'. He gave me the ticket and said I'll see you in court. Fast forward 2 months to court date and the attorney and the leo say that the exemption follows the owner and not the car. I showed them the exemption where it states that "The owner of the vehicle has supplied this office with prop paper work and that this vehicle is exempt from the MS State T…

I have noticed people jump every time I say I tinted a full car (which includes the windshield). Windshield tinting here in PR is LEGAL. The law states all windows in a car must have a minimum of 35% vlt. So yes, it is legal to tint your windshield. We use 43% ASWF film on the windshield. Unless a customer asks for something darker at their own risk.

Florida Tint Laws, Do I Have Them Correct? 1 2
by Guest elopomorph- 11 replies
- 59.1k views
I live in Florida and plan on getting my windows re-tinted this summer. I purchased the car used and it has crappy tint on it. I have been reading old posts and can you tell me if I have the Florida tint laws correct? I have a 2004 toyota corolla four door S model. Here is what I believe to be the legal tint limits for Florida: Two back windows and rear window: 15%. Front side windows = 28% So does 28% mean it allows 28% of the light to penetrate the window? Also, I have a kid and safety is my number one priority. I want to get the darkest tint that is legal but not if it will make it more difficult for me to see cars. I would like to hear opinions on this topic…

New Jersey commercial vehicles

NJ law states that no tint can be applied legally to the front windows. Does this stand true for vehicles that are registered commercial as well? I saw a post about the same thing on here but they were in other states so I didnt know if its the same. I know they allow tractor trailers to have their fronts tinted now but didnt know about anything else. Thanks.

I came across a forum for police officers discussing the Florida tint law. Thought it was interesting (and a bit scary). There are ways to virtually eliminate, or at least drastically reduce illegal window tinting (yearly inspections or harsh penalties to the installer) but it is tolerated enough so they can stop you when they want to, and not have to worry about violating your personal liberties. Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I just paranoid... Another good reason to stay legal http://forums.office...window-tint-law

TINT METER MODEL 100

It is my understanding that Laser Labs put out a Tint Meter Training Manual For Law Enforcement Officers for the "tint meter model 100" but it is no longer available or hidden. Does anyone have a copy of this? Fighting a ticket in Kansas where the window was filthy dirty when he tested it? Any help would be great.

Chicago Law same as rest of Illinois?
by Guest Akers93- 4 replies
- 1.1k views
I have someone from Chicago asking me if the laws are the same in Chicago as the rest of the state. He will be in town for the holidays and wants his windows done but has heard rumors of Chicago having a "homeland law" or something to that sort holding effective to the old laws of none on the fronts. If someone could clear this up for me that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

TN Law changed as of Jul 1, 2009 1 2
by Guest coredneck- 12 replies

I just found this through Film Magazine. Tennessee just changed their tint law where it now to a certain extent applies to out of state motorists. If you are driving from a different state into TN, the TN law requires you to comply with the law in your home state with one caveat, the front windows cannot be no darker than 35%. TCA 55-9-107 (a)(6)(A)(iii) requires your vehicle to meet your state's specification and TCA 55-9-107 (a)(6)(B) adds in that no motor vehicle front door windows are exempt from the 35% standard. One state for example is New Mexico which allows for 20% including the front door windows. A person from driving through TN with his legl 20% windows incl…

I am going to be doing a motorhome monday and considered doing a slightly reflective film such as a DR-40 film on the driver sides....is that wrong? What covers RV's? is it covered by "normal" state law or something else? I think the DR-40 I have is not even very reflective anyway but then I wonder again what law it goes under. It is not a commercial vehicle but it is a RV....

Local cop giving people false tint laws? 1 2

In the next town over from me there is a local cop that has been nailing everyone for their tint. So I have had a lot of people coming to me lately to strip their windows and some want it done legal again... but when they say they want it legal they tell me what the cop told them is legal and from what i understand it is still not legal.. people that got busted most of them had 5% on back and 20% on front. they told me that the cop told them as long as its 30% on fronts it is fine. my understanding is that if you have darker than 35% (or 30%) on the rear you must have 50% on the fronts or you can go 35% all the way around. this cop (which is the same cop that gets everyon…

Washington DC Tint Laws

I'm a little unclear on the DC tint laws. We don't get too many DC customers, but it would be good to know for when we do get them! Also, IWFA wasn't much help on this matter. I was told by another shop in DC that the laws were changed this year, and MPVs could have anything on the rears. But, I looked up the IWFA law sheet for 2013, and it still says 35% on the rears. Don't get how this works when factory is already about 20%.

Is a minivan considered a "multi-purpose vehicle"? 1 2
by Guest mileena- 18 replies
- 5.1k views
Hi, I live in California and have a 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan with the middle and back rows of seats folded down or removed. Is this considered an MPV? It is a van afterall, just smaller. Many florists, in fact, use Dondge Caravans, for example, with no rear and middle seats for their business. If so, I can have 0's on my rear windows and not violate many states' tinting laws, since they allow for rear windows on an MPV to have any tint, but not on a passenger car. Also, is there such a thing as 0's? I have seen 5's refrred to a lot, but never 0's. Will a good tinter have samples to display to me? Thanks!

For 26 years I have been tinting in Indiana. Never a problem with the law. Today 7/30/08, I had a local auto dealer call me and they said a customer with tint we installed on their car was recently pulled over. The State Trooper asked ofr proof that the diver was in "compliance with FMVSS205" and said it was in the law code for Indiana. This has never been an issue. So I went and checked the Indiana Law myself - here it is... IC 9-19-19-4 Tinting, glazing, or sunscreening vehicle windows Sec. 4. (a) This section does not apply to a manufacturer's tinting or glazing of motor vehicle windows or windshields that is otherwise in compliance with or permitted by FM…

Hey guys. 9+ years in business and running strong. located in NC. Recently, the DMV has been crazy rediculous on local tint shops. bout a 50 mile radius... I have been threatened for tinting vehicles too dark, with a fine, and possible closure... shew... Anyways, I will not go too dark unless I "know" the customer well enough. But with the "heat" all over me right now, even that is sketchy. My question is this... Is it possible to get fined, or a citation, or etc., by tinting a vehicle too dark? And if so, what are the concequences, and is there anything I can do to protect myself? I.e. it was a show car... it was towed in on a roll back and off road use only... sign…

What Is The Current Fines For Illegal Tint In Mississippi.
by Guest sound&security- 7 replies

IN 06 the law was changed and the fines were up to $1000 + court cost and/or up to 90 days in jail. Illegal tint isnt a traffic violation in M.S its really a misdemeanor crime. Now I'm hearing that the law changed again in 08 and its now up to $1000 fine per window + court cost and/or up to one year in county jail.. EVEN with a medical exempt card windsheilds are still illegal to tint in M.S and carry1000 fine mandatory and possible 90 days in county jail...I spoke to the states attorneys office in jackson and they stated they love to jail persons there on that one. SO I asked her what is the window tinter fines for research. first time caught up to 1000 fine. secon…

I am considering starting a tint bussiness, The only problem is that i live in a state where no tint is legal. However the boarder state alows 35% but almost everyone i know wants 20% or darker so how is there even money to be made here. I see other body/tint shops doing it all the time in the area up to even 5 %. Do you have any advise for me because i really want to get into this business but this law seems like a real problem. Can i tint the windows darker then 35% or am i responsible for it if i do? I feel that if i do not offer darker tints i wil lose about 70% of the work i could be geting.

After january 2011 the wild russian police arranged anti tinting terror. In province they could pursuit tint car, pulled over them and force motorist to remove film from front windows. But in Moscow it is still tolerated... Since 2012 Russian Government is going to toughen tint law. Tint film is treated as a technical defect, which prohibits car using. The punishment is removal of the license plates and a cash fine. What examples do you know about greatest film fines?

The "general rule" around here is 27% on all windows. However Section 56-5-5015 of the SC Code of Laws gets into more details... The biggest stipulation to this "general rule" applies to MPVs (Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles) where all rear windows can be as dark as you like. These vehicles would typically include trucks, vans, SUVs, and some wagons. The vehicle's ID card (usually found somewhere around the driver's door opening) will usually have "MPV" or "Multipurpose Passenger Vehicle" somewhere on it. However, you still have to keep to the 27% on the front doors. Hope this helps some people here in SC!

Yes I did a search on this already and it came up with 2 posts that did not answer my question. Does anyone know the laws regarding tint in Oklahoma? Seems like everyone where I live has 5% and I have seen some 2% and I have seen some people get tickets or warnings but thats 1/500. I'm not exaggerating when I say of all the cars tinted where I live about 50-75% are done in 5%. Seems like everyone has "murdered out" windows. I'm beginning to wonder if its illegal here or if the cops are just concerned with more problems. Thanks

ok... so I have read about how alot of your feel about breaking the tint laws.. you value your company and it is not worth throwing it away for one customer that comes in and wants 5% all around. What if... The tint laws changed and there was no law... you can install what ever you wanted... what would be your personal limit..

Hey I'm in VA and the current legallimit is 50%FR and 35% Rr, we currently have a new bill that passed though the house and senate called HB1724 allowing 35% all around. The bill is waiting on the Governors signature to become law. The majority of my customers are aware of this bill and aren"t sure what to get installed. I haven"t had any issues YET, but I am just wondering what would you guys install the current legal limit or the future?

What do you think about different points of VLT? The main question is why. Why do governments set vlt 70% or 30%? Where do they get these numbers from? I think there was no special investigation, statistics or anything else. Maybe the choice was just random?

I know that the current law states no tint two front windows but I recently had a customer who was with a friend and got a ticket for tint on two front windows but the car was registered in Mass and the cop said it had to meet NH dmv law can this really be true? What would people do traveling cross country I was always under the impression that law mostly went by where it's registered. Any feed back?

Can you get ticketed for driving a friend's car? PA
by Guest Kinger124- 7 replies
- 2.4k views
Two friends of mine were arguing the other day about this subject. This is in PA and it is a 2010 BMW M3 with 20% all around One said that if she were to borrow a friend's car with tint on it SHE could get a ticket for it if pulled over. Of course the other said that's not the case since she didnt own the vehicle. So, has it ever happened to someone? If she borrowed a car and got pulled over for tint could she get a ticket even if she didnt own the car? I cant see how they could ticket the owner either if they werent the one operating the vehicle.

NC Tint Laws

I need to replace the windshield on my classic 1956 Studebaker due to delamination. Do NC's tint laws prohibit buying a windshield with a light green tint in the glass (not film)? The way the law reads it makes it sound like the glass has to be free of tint altogether.
