NY %vlt
by Guest Cstoliker- 3 replies

As far as I can tell NY allows 70% vlt on side windows front and rear. I've been to manny different stores but can't find anything even close to 70%. Advanced auto even sells a "legal tint package" but it contains 20% rear and 35% front! The majority of stores carry 40% at the lightest. Am I missing something? Window tint is rated by visual light transfer so, an untainted window would be 100% (or close to it) and 0% would be black paint right?

So after 3+ years of driving around with 30% on all 5 windows of my TSX (tan interior) I finally got pulled over and was given a warning. No prob, I understood as my tint was over the limit (though I didn't feel it was that dark). My problems is when he said it had to be removed from ALL windows, when I thought it was just the two front side windows that couldn't be more than 50%??? So can anyone give me a logical reason as to why a trucks, SUV's, mini vans, and wagon have darker tint on the back glass from the factory than a sedan or coupe, yet still legal? For the life of me I cannot figure it out, the cop couldn't give me a reason, and I can't figure out for the life …

Just curious I try and talk my customers into going with legal tint as much as I can, so I like to have my facts straight on the fines and what they will be looking forward to when they decide to go illegal. I am just hearing from diiferent people that it is now a misdemeanor, you can get two points on your license, and it goes on your criminal record. Also I have heard that installing illegal film is anywhere from a $200 to $5000 fine. Is there anywhere that I can find this info in writing instead of going off hear say? By the way I am looking at NC laws I know they vary from state to state.

VA tint law clarification Please

So VA Law says: "G. Nothing in this section shall prohibit applying to the rear side windows or rear window of any multipurpose passenger vehicle or pickup truck sun-shading or tinting films that reduce the total light transmittance of such window or windows below 35 percent." With "multipurpose passenger vehicles being described as: "Multipurpose passenger vehicle" means any motor vehicle that is (i) designed to carry no more than 10 persons and (ii) constructed either on a truck chassis or with special features for occasional off-road use." So. Couple of questions about this. This means that I can go as dark as the custy wants on a pickup truck, or anything built …

ok, i was just wondering if ya'll knew what the laws were/or where i could find them regarding tinting on a commercial vehicle (i.e. semi truck, pickup registered as commercial vehicle, etc.) got a guy wanting his windows tinted, its a dodge ram extended cab, and he claims he cant have any darker than 70% because he's registered as a commercial vehicle. i think he may have been mis-informed. i did a google search and i even went to the nebraska unicameral website. i found the laws on the unicameral website regarding passenger vehicles but i can't seem to find squat on commercial vehicles. perhaps the same ruls apply, but i wanna make sure before continuing.. thanks g…

Florida tint law help 1 2

I am new to the forum and wanted some tint law help. I have a full size 4 door f150 King ranch truck the 4 bucket seat model. The type of vehicle on the door jamb states TRUCK. Is my truck considered a MPV since it says vehicles built to carry 10 or fewer passengers built on a truck chassis and I believe it states extra cab trucks? If that’s the case my back window and rear window can be 6% and there is a 3 % margin so it can actually be 3% correct? My front windows need to be 28% to be legal and I am ok right? I heard you can get a medical exemption. I wanted to look into that since I do wear and have wore contacts since I was prob 14 and never change them and never tak…

Illegal tint fine in Cali
by Guest Mo Evo- 0 replies
- 2.4k views
Because California, like most states is nearly bankrupt, many violation fines went up starting January 6, 2011. I dont know if it's still a 'fix-it' ticket, but I do know the fine is now $178 for illegal front window tint. These new fines are crazy high. For instance, failure to top at a red light is $436, failure to provide proof of insurance is $796, parking in a bus loading zone is $976, so is parking in a disabled spot, but the 2nd violation costs you a cool $1876!!! I want Ah-nold back!

I received an email today from a customer did workfor 2 months ago. The car was a acura tl the bad ass one (turbo or what ever)a very nice car...the customer chose suntek carbon 35% which I installed. The wife, whom drives the car received a ticket and the customer claims that she was told it was 25%(which there is no carbon 25% to my knowledge nor have I ever purchased a 25%). The customer has requested that I either refund the money or replace it with 50%. I was very clear when explaining the legalities as always. I expect a call from the customer very soon so I could use some advice. I am prepared to explain that I don't carry a 25%, that the area in which the citati…

in the tint law chart, what do they mean when it says net or film?
-

Ok. Here's the thing. Many states (I can speak for Texas) have standards for measuring tint darkness during state inspections. So they HAVE to check the tint on the front (maybe even back) doors, right? It's the rule. Guess what! There is NO RULE stating that the windows have to function. If the windows are down, and incapable of going up, there is nothing to check. Heck, it would pass with no side windows! Once again (in Tx anyway) the windows don't HAVE to operate. I have heard of this "loophole" actually working more than once, and an inspection guy that I asked about this had no argument against this tactic. I'm not sayin it's ok, but jackin' around with…

Was sitting at at red light when I noticied a cop behind me; saw him when he grabbed his mic and started talking; sho 'nough--he pulled me over, actually three (3) pulled me over. Here I am on Flamingo Rd with Mississippi firefighter tag--tint at 5% and he pulls me over; I fiogured it was a matter of time. I rolled the window down and he asked for my license and as I was getting them from my wallet he explained that there wasa tint law in Nevada and asked me was I aware of it. I told him I was in fact aware of the law; from his look and demeanor I guess he thought I was being smart alec which I wasn't. I told him as I was g…

I've had some people ask me where/how to go about getting a prescription for their auto tint. Does anybody really know??? From what I understand it use to take an eye doctor to prescribe it for you, but now it's a regular dr... is this right?? Is there a form or something you have to get and fill out and sign?? I don't know anybody who has but I"ve been told they're available for when they're needed. Reminder, this is in MN and I'm assuming it's different for other states.

If I drive in another state...? (limo tint)
by Guest svet- 8 replies
- 4.1k views
Thinking of limo on the rears, legal where I live (CA), but wondering what happens when I drive to OR and WA where the max is 35%...? How does one figure out if that will fly? Like, is it by state reg, or just illegal if you happen to be there, period? (I assume this is different in every state, not to mention each officer's disposition at the moment...) Also, CO has 2 set of rules, I am assuming that if I have no tint on the front, any on the rear flies. Do I read that right? But don't all windows have some % right from the factory? Or are they just going after aftermarket tint? I am not liking the thought of going 35% just because OR and WA are uptightarses about tin…

"tinted" windows 1 2

Hi. =) Well, I got a ticket from the Cali highway patrol for tinted windows, and I tried to access their website to check it out online, but they don't have such resources (do they?) It's a correctable ticket. I'd like to contest it though. (I could explain more the reasons why, if you're interested) Anyways, so if I contest it and I am still found "guilty", do I still get a chance to correct it or do I lose the chance and then also pay a fine (and points too? raised insurance??) O, one more thing, can I ask for an extension on my ticket...and then contest it? Ya, I looked at a lot of websites, the cali hiway patrol website (sux), forums all over, google for thes…

Oregon Tint Laws

So before I joined this site officially (a month ago maybe?) I stumbled upon the tint laws here and I'm 94% sure that I saw something saying that SUV's could have the back windows darker than 35% but sedans, pickups, and coupes had to have 35% all the way around. Then the standard "no windsheild" no more than 6" visor thing. Now I can't find anything but a blanket 35% for every car... Just wanted someone to tell me if I was nuts I guess.

So I am getting tints done tomorrow. I am trying to decide what shade to get and I really want the 20% because I don't think the 35% will be worth paying --- dollars for, as I have seen it and it really doesn't make the windows dark enough for me. The 20% looks great and im just wondering what you guys think are my chances of getting pulled over in my medium sized Connecticut town (35% is the limit for side windows) in my 01 maroon audi (beige interior, im thinking the beige interior plus not much contrast with the car color may disguise the darkness a little in front of cops)

Hey new to the site -- Got pulled over on Long Island for my tints. I know its a primary offense but I got a few other questions (thanks if you can help). My tints are legal - 70% VLT%. Cop never let me see the meter but he wrote on the ticket that my tints were 69%. 1. Do you guys know if in NY, he has to let me see the meter? 2. According to the meter's manual, a tint meter has a variance of +/- 2% and it is considered accurate. Meaning my tints, at 70, could be measured at 72 or 68% when they are actually 70%. In addition the manual says that the window should be wiped/cleaned before taking a reading cause this would skew the reading as well. He did not do this an…
