Metering

Are the police required to Meter a window to give out an Illeagal Tint Ticket? Does the Ticket have to show percentage the window film metered? Does the Judge have to throw out the ticket if it does not show what the film metered? The above questions would be for the state of Oregon, just curious.

HI Folks: My son was given a ticket for windows being too dark. I called local police and talked to a deputy and he said that GA LAW only requires that the driver and the passenger windows in the front to meet the tint law. Reading through here it looks like many think it applies all around the vehicle. Does anyone know for sure? Mike

I have 35% tint all the way around my G35 sedan and I got a ticket last week for $125 for having !llegal tint.... I live in minnesota and the limit is 50%. Most cops dont give a sh** but the city I live in is full of people who pay a lot on taxes, with no crime, so cops get bored quickly and enjoy pulling you over for simple things... Im planning on paying it, I spoke to my doctor today, but he wouldnt comment on my 'headaches in the sun" note on the sheet, so that was a no go (any other way to get a medical exempt??) If I go to court, will it get lowered?? Idk, it just seems dumb. You can see right threw my tint... A dude on the local forum got a pic of me while I wa…

I get a call from a guy asking how much to tint his 97 Ford Contour. I quote the price and then he asks about the legal limits for tint. I explain it and he says - " I want it dark enough so nobody can tell my skin color or facial features" WTF??? Most people would at least come up with "I want privacy" or "I want to block more of the sun" but not this tool. LOL Needless to say I refused the job, and I didn't coach him on how not to be so obvious when planning a crime in his car. LOL

Im just so curious why a lot of the tinters on here consider dark tint to be dangerous? 5% I can def see why, but anything between 20 and 30% I think is just fine. im not talkin law here just want other tinters opinions. please tell me why tint is more dangerous than dark sunglasses. and why tinting my windshield with 50% to keep the glare down is dangerous when the sun in my face is more dangerous? both for my eyes and anyone in front of me.

Had a custy buy a 2008 3 series BMW and I put 35% Carbon Suntek all round. (legal limit in oz) She gets transfered to Canberra and takes the car over the government pits where their light meter clocked it at 29% (can get away with 30% usually). Having been over their pits myself I know their testing is performed in a dark old shed, and if they are using the same Light meter, its ancient! Has anyone else experienced the same sort of problems specifically with Canberra, but I also hear South Ausralia can be the same? We bought a brand new light meter so as soon as I get my hands on it I will be conducting a full T.S.I. (Tint Scene Investigation)

Dilemma! Two years ago, I had legal tint installled on my suv by reputable tint installer locallly. I drive by cops daily, I talk to cops, I have cops in the family. So, one day, I drop my kid off at school and head on home. I get pulled over by this cop first thing in the morning, on an overcast day. The cop gets out of his car and says, do you know why I pulled you over? I said, no. He says, license and registration I hand it to him, he walks back to his car, couple of minutes he returns and hands me back my license and reggie. He states, do you know why I pulled you over? I said, no. He says, roll down your back window, puts a meter on it and says because you have ill…

Where does the sticker go?
by Guest Vigilant- 6 replies

My state law requires that a sticker be placed "between the film and glass on the driver's side window." These stickers are supplied by film manufacturers. I'm just curious if there's a specific location on the window that's best or standard for them.

When did you go into business? (date on business lic.) 1 2 3
by Guest Key West- 21 replies

I got so worked up over this unfortunate development that I did alot of research in advance, should some of you need it. After researching the law in NY, it occured to me that alot of you haven't got a leg to stand on legally. These statutes were enacted in 1991, and went into effect as of Jan 1, 1992. SO, unless you were in business PRIOR to Jan 1, 1992, these laws should come as no suprise. If you opened up shop and applied !llegal film after that date, you did so knowing full well that you were engaged in !llegal activity. You cannot elicit sympathy because they changed the laws after you were in business. You KNEW or should have known what the laws were when you opene…

riddle me this!
by Guest nc_wlch- 6 replies

ok, I tint in hutchinson, ks, which is about in the middle of the state. anyway, I have read both laws pertaining to window tint here, and basically they read that any sun screening device which is used IN CONJUNCTION with the factory safety glazing materials must not measure below 35% vlt. ok, I understand that. here is the tricky part, lets say a customer has a vehiclen that came with factory privacy glass on everything behind the driver, of course I would use my 38 on the front roll-ups, but what if they have a model that didn't come with tint, am I still restricted to using 38 on the entire thing?

How are out-of-state/province cars with tint treated?

Hey all, great forum! I'm not a tinter, just a guy who wants his car windows tinted. I have a silver 2006 Toyota Matrix and will be using this car to travel through many states and provinces and would like to know what the best compromise on tint levels would be. Currently, the car is registered in British Columbia, Canada where the law states that the front windows cannot have any tint. In about 6 months, I will be relocating and re-registering the car in either Ontario or Quebec. I will be spending a lot of time in the Toronto and Montreal areas and their suburbs. I'm leaning towards registering the car in Quebec. About 14 years ago, I was living in British Columbia (…

On tonight's local news the Louisiana State Police had Trouper Sal Messina warning people that they are going to be cracking down on illegal tint. They interviewed a local shop owner who showed what is legal in Louisiana on a piece of flat glass and the reporter made note of the cost of fines. Shops caught for first offence could face fines of $1000 first offence, $2000 second offence and loss of licence third offence. Motorist caught can expect fines from $130 to $150. The reported also noted that the police are exempt from the law and on the KPLCTV.COM website they have links to the LSP window tinting exemption forms for medical or security. I bet in this town 40% …

A tinter I met in Florida told me recently he heard that the legislature was looking at a bill aimed at regulating flat glass film installation. Specifically what many tinters in the south call "Hurricane Films". He said they were discussing legislation that would penalize installers who claim that films are hurricane proof. He said it would also have a section dealing with solar reduction films for flat glass. Has anyone heard of this piece of legislation?? I have driven through the DelRay/Boca/Boynton BEach areas and have seen signs posted on the side of the road advertising just that, HURRICANE PROOF.

Or at least some people believe so: https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/bin/bld...mp;session=ls85 http://www.senate.leg.state.mn.us/departme...mp;ss_year=2007 Main Points: 1.) Cops are exempt on the backs......like they haven't already been. I've never seen a cop pull over a cop for tint 2.) Dealers can't sell or lease cars illegally tinted. 3.) Rx expire every 2 years. Hey, I've never seen one anyways 4.) I'm still a bit confused about the "first stage" thing. But I think it won't impact me. It's basically excluding factory privacy class. Which, it already does. Either way MN tinters should email/call/etc their reps and the Governor if you object to the new …

If we could all ban together, I beleive we could beat this unconstitutional law concerning installing illeagal tint. The manny's are exempt for manufacturing and selling it, why can't we be treated the same. I beleive the responsibillity should fall on the customer, and make a stiff fine, and more for the second offense, and third offense vehicle confiscated and driver licence revoked for six months. Because of the preasure we get from the customer it is hard not to install illeagal, I inform every cust'y about the law, it does'nt matter to about 70% of them. It seems like the manny's would be concerned about this, just shows us all how much they care about the very peopl…

I've been wondering what the difference is on this. My question can be applied to any state like PA, FL, etc. Only the states that have VLT limits on every window. So MI is out on this one. in short, here's the situation: Shop owners in some states (ie: florida) can get fined for installing film, or sued by people for installing the film on cars that dont comply with state tint laws, because it's !llegal, and too dark... A waiver doesn't suffice here. Shop owner is liable. Manufactureres aren't liable for anything because on the box of film, it basically says that they dont want the film installed illegally. My question is this... Florida doesn't allow any darker t…
