Is it true that in cali that you cant cover your brakelight with tint? I just dont wanna get pulled over for tint unless my front windows are blacked out. Thanks experts.

OK, we all know our laws concerning tinting,we all know that we as professional can be sued by customers in the event of a death, accident, whatever. We are the professioanals so we know whats right and whats wrong. So Here in NJ there are laws regarding lifted vehicles. These Vehicles must not be lifted past a certain height that the state has set for each weight limt of the truck ,,blahh.blahh and so on. If the Lifted Vehicle passes these conditions it then must go to a Stability Test at a special inspection station and the vehicle is to drive up on a 30 degree angle to see if it wil roll over. OK My Point. These lift kits can get involved as far as installations go…

All tinters on here I am getting a Chryslter 300 2008 black on black. What would you suggest? Will the tint look darker because the car is darker? How about 40% all the way around or 30% on the back and 40% on the doors. Please advise on what you think and if you have any pictures that would be great too. Thanks for your help TOMMY

What the hell is with you goody two shoes freaks that have to constantly bash people that want to put on tint that is even the least bit darker than what is legal for the state the poster is posting from? All I hear are things like watch out for little Ricky on the bike, or that pedestrian or don’t hit that car you can’t see. There is a valid point in not tinting the windshield. There is even a small valid point on the front side windows when your going 5%, but the windows can be rolled down when visibility is poor for making a turn. Most of the viewing is done from the front so if anybody is going to get ran over it is going to be from the front. I hear t…

Can you tint the rear windows of a pickup truck as dark as you want in VA or does that only apply to vans and suv's? I was always told the rear of truck could be as dark as you wanted but then while looking at an online chart of the laws it said pickup trucks were not MPV's so that confused me. Thanks guys.

So I own my own shop in MO. Legal on the fronts is 35%. I follow the law and encourage my customers to do as well. So I get pulled over by a bike cop who informs me that He has 16 tickets he wrote that day already for tint and that he knew I was too dark. So he hauls off and meters my window and I'm not sweating it at all. It meters at 28. I calmly say just clean the window I"m sure there's dirt etc on it. He procedes to grab a grese cloth and smear my window with it. He says its a "poly" cloth (which is a ridiculous statement, paper towels are poly cloths too then if they have more than one material in them I digress). I say that its not clean enough and he needs to use …

while they are trying to rebuild the city, they are screwing the people for anything they can. its nothin but a big money scam, but the cops themselves love to have the tin on thier cars dark as hell. I am told stories about tint laws in the city of new orleans, which is like 5 miles away from me, and how crazy they about it. they are quick to pull u over for anyhting tint at all and test it. one person told me that their car was towed off because the tint was too dark. I loved living here at one time, but the stupidity that goes on is out of hand. you watch the news, and im sure that u have seen the murd3r rate and the problems that the city faces. yet they go through …

NC Tint Law Question 1 2 3
by Guest bankerjohn- 26 replies

I recently moved to Morehead City from Florida, and have been trying to get my car to pass inspection here in NC. The station I took it to originally failed it because the windshield banner was too long (extended more than 5" from the top of the windshield). So I took it to a shop here and they removed the old banner and installed a new one that was only 5" ... but they used a darker film than what was on there originally (35%). Now the station is still failing my car because they say the windshield banner is legal as to its length, but the tint is only 9%. I called the shop that replaced the banner, and they said that they've been putting on darker windshield banners fo…

They're gearing up to really knock us pro tinters flat. There have been two pieces of legislation regarding tint discussed recently. sample letter: It has come to my attention that certain representatives seek to resolve a growing problem of excessive window tinting by introducing legislation that will restrict all tinting darker than 70% NET light transmittance. Much of the excessive window tinting th…

I have just moved to NJ from PA. I have the darkest tint on the back windows allowed by PA law and also a light tint on my front windows. However now that I moved into NJ I have to get my car inspected again, and have found that NJ law doesn't allow for front window tint???!!! Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do. I really don't want to rip off the tint! Also I had the tint put on by a prof. so if the worst case happens that I do have to take it off...what is the best way for a novice to take off tint?

Hey, just to get it straight, here in NYC, the cops have been cracking down on tint since 9/11. The law here is on a 4 door car 70% on the 4 roll downs and anything on the back glass. A member on here named Gerk made a statement that I tinted his Honda Accord with double limo tint and the windshield in 20%. Its obvious he was joking, but I've seen some comments about it. Even if I wanted to tint windshields, I could not, police here are trained to look for tinted glass including windshields, they dont tollerate that here in NYC. They even have special meters that can measure the VLT on windshields. Also the fines are extensive, cars with !llegal tint are ticketed for e…

If I do a 35% or 30% in the rear and 20% on my small rearside mirrors will you be able to tell from the outside of the vehicle? Should I just go with the same shade for the back 3? In my short experience 5% tint is horrible and 20% is bad at night.

Price of tint tickets in California (bay area)
by Guest ponyrider- 7 replies

I was wondering if anyone knows what the current price typically is for a tinting violation is in Northern/Bay Area California. I'm considering having some minor tinting done on the passenger/driver windows but I actually live right near a police station and I also work near a police station so I'm pretty confident it will only be a matter of time before I get pulled over. I tried searching google and cant find much about the COST of these type of tickets. I've heard people say it's just a minor $10 fix it ticket and I've heard others say it can cost you hundreds of dollars. Also do these tickets appear on your insurance because my insurance is already through the roo…

I am a tinter in sunny ol Phoenix, AZ. I know this legal/illegal issue has been hammered over and over, but what about the new 3M Crystalline 70% (CR70) that basically is not visibly under any light conditions or angles of the sun? I have it on all my vehicle windshields, my 2 neighbors that are cops for Mesa and a bunch of friends also have it. The film has NO distortion and you absolutely can't see the film, yet it blocks out about 97% of the heat. Does anyone have any idea abou the legal implications if I have the customer sign a document stating that "legally" they can't have anything installed on their windshields and by asking me to do so, they agree to not hold m…

I am wondering how much of a problem this is for everyone else? I am getting on average 10-70 a week. When I say, "no" I get cussed out, hung up on, etc. Is this a problem for others? I see vehicles here in Utah everyday that are illegal. Mostly trucks with 5% on front roll ups. Legal is 43% combined. How do these other shops get away with this?

A night at the drive-in takes a terrible turn when a four-year-old girl is hit by a truck and the driver takes off. It happened on Friday night at the Drive-In Movie Theatre Four-year-old Jozlynn Reynoso and her family go there on a regular basis to have fun but they say, Friday night was anything but a good time. "As soon as his front tire cleared his back tire did a little bump and my husband was like oh, oh my God he just hit one of the kids and I'm like don't even say that. I got out of the car and she was screaming," said Jozlynn's aunt, Theresa Kendrick. Jozlynn had been sitting with her cousins on the ground in front of the family car. Her aunt rushed to h…

Yesterday was my last day as an auto film installer and almost immediately upon leaving the shop I got pulled over. I had a pretty good idea why and it was confirmed when popo walked up with the ol' tint meter. I saw some strange irony in that. Anyway, he asked me what % film I had and if I knew the law for the state of Ohio. He had that look in his eye like, "Got your azz son", and I figured he probably did. I told him that I did it myself, was 54%, and the law is 50% for front windows (I figured I wouldn't mention the -net part of that law ). Well it ended up registering at 44% which was apparently good enough for him. He then went on rattling off all the…

Police turn efforts to car tinting Darkened windows pose danger to drivers, officers 11/02/07 by bob allen and mike fila Email this story to a friend County police are taking aim at the degree of tinting on car and truck windows. Within the past nine months, officers in the northwest part of the county have been equipped with five hand-held meters to help enforce state law that addresses what is allowed -- and what is not. The Franklin Precinct has four meters, and Pikesville has one. Tinted windows are a danger to both drivers and police, said Officer Daniel Krueger, of the Franklin Precinct. Driving at night becomes more dangerous with excessive window tinting a…

recently I've heard of a few customers getting 3 points and a sixty pound fine for having dark tint on the fronts! turns out I tinted them both years ago before the law changed but what gets me is the police now seem more 'eager' to give out points and a fine rather than give them the 10 days to remove the tint. I'm'hearing' rumours that their is a new law coming in?but as I know,'rumours' have a tendency to be hearsay and I haven't heard anything official. I did a bit more investigating and turns out both my customers had 35% on the fronts,so fair play, nowadays thats over the limits but previously the police had been a bit more giving.
