water beading windows 1 2 3

what do you guys do when you get a car that has rain x or the like on the inside of the glass, and as soon as you spray it the soapy water beads off. do you guys just add more soap to your water of do you use something to scrub and break it down off the window, I always wondered of this stuff on the windows had something to do with adhesive failure. I just add more soap and position my film quickly before it sticks.

Huper Optik vs. V-Cool 1 2
by Guest Litespeeds- 17 replies
Just talked to a V-Cool rep and tried their film in 70%. They claim 55% heat rejection and 94% Infra-Red rejection from this almost clear film. I tried it on my front doors and it is actually very good. Not sure if it really reduces that much heat but I would say at least 45%. Will have to use a BTU meter to get accurate readings. I haven't tried the Huper Optik film yet but I have heard it is very similar to V-Cool. Has anyone used both films and tested them? What are your thoughts?

Has anyone seen a film that will match the green glass put in commercial buildings. This is a double pane window that was replaced at 4:00 am due to a break-in and the glass company did not have the green glass to match the rest of the winodws.

Anybody a one man shop? 1 2 3 4
by Guest Terrapin- 34 replies

I'm considering leasing a small shop but I'm a little apprehensive. How do you handle the workload while answering the phones and dealing with customers coming in? I think customers would be turned off by getting an answering machine during the day. Anyone work with a headset to talk on the phone while working? What if your message said you'd return calls between a set time and ask them to leave their number. From what I can tell, the town I'm moving to doesn't have another full time tint shop so I don't have to worry about losing customers to another shop, but at the same time, I don't want to leave a bad impression with anyone either. Any thoughts?

Dot devil ? and removing tint 1 2
by Guest naughtydog- 11 replies

1. Do any of you guys use dot devil available from filmhandler.com and if so, how does it work/what is it?? 2. I am new to the tinting biz and today made a mess of a drop glass( thats a wind down window in the US), It was'nt till I wound the window up that I noticed that the film was a few millimeters to short. I ripped it off and started again. My question is this though. I had a devil of a job getting the window clean due to the remains of the adhesive. What is your favourite method of removing adhesive/tint. I notice that there is a solution available called "tint-off" - I dont know if it is available in the UK though?? Are there any other chemical alternatives availa…

slippery when wet

Do you think it really makes any difference what soap is used to tint with? I have always heard, in recent years, that dish soap is not good for the adhesive. Am I nuts for using this Film On stuff from llumar or should I use baby shampoo?

Filmstar, Im a convert now 1 2
by Guest tintslut- 15 replies

Bought a used filmstar from tintskeet about a year ago. Well It kinda just sat around collecting dust, never really had nuthin to try it out on. Today was the chance. Have an office building that requires around 400 19 5/8 x 48 pieces of frosted film. Last week , it took 15 minutes to tint 4 of these windows and cut a 1 inch border reveal. Using the Filmstar, this time was reduced to 9 minutes. No heapin bags of release liners and excess film scrap. all times included cleaning drywall dust off the frames, blading windows and squeegee. While the cost may seem high, If you do a lot of windows of the same sizes, this thing is definately a time saver. Thanks tin…

Flat Glass Rates
by Guest Spesh- 4 replies
Hey guys, I have always been paid per square metre, my rate stays the same per metre, but the price he sells it for differs on volume etc, but was thinking about asking for a percentage of the job, ........I hear a lot of talk about tinting cars and asking for around 30 percent.............would this be advisable for flat glass as well? Does anyone else work on a percentage rate for flat glass. any suggestions or comments or advice would be greatly appreciated Cheers

question on shrinking
by Guest ctru34- 9 replies
first of all, when you put the tint on the outside of the glass and heat it with a heat gun, is that called dry shrinking or heat shrinking or is it the same thing? and when there is like 3 or 4 fingers there, is it better to have like 3 or 4 little fingers or move them around so there is only 1 or 2 bigger fingers? also, I thought I read that your supposed to move all the fingers to the bottom, is that right? thanks again

97 monte carlo
by Guest ctru34- 3 replies

today I was doin the back side windows on a 97 monte carlo, there was a bunch of fingers, I was using crappy gila, but im still learning so im not tryin to waste more money then I have to practicing. but anyways, I was heat shrinking them with the heat gun, this is the first time ive ever heat shrinked before. but I was doing alright but im guessing your not supposed to heat the very edges of the tint where the fingers are? cuz when I would heat the edge, it would heat up and move away from the window and be stuck like that. basically it ruined the tint in that spot. but is that because I heated it too hot right there, or is it because it was on the edge of the tint? so…

Haven't had to do much of this (thank goodness) but I had one today and when the customer picked it up she wasn't happy with the way the lines changed colors from scraped to unscraped. My question is do scrape every line of defroster? I figure I'll get to redo this car anyway cause these folks were "artist" and expected perfection on a 94 Camry with 9 year old tint and 170,000 miles. :ahole

Hi, I am new here and have a question. I want to get my car tinted to help keep the car cool, but dont want my night time visibility to be reduced. Is there a special tint that will reflect the heat and still allow me to see well at night ? Does tinting the window REALLY help keep the car noticably cooler or is this really not true ?

Glueing the Dot Matrix 1 2 3
by Guest CloudWalker- 26 replies
When you tint the back glass then you peel the film back to let it dry before you put the childrens glue on the dots. I know the idea is to peel the film back just to where the dots end. Well when I do this, because the glass is curved you peel the film all the way to the end of the dots without exposing some of the glass, and when the glass dries and you put the film back there are air bubbles now. Whats the best way to do this?

newbie stuggling on rear window
by Guest naughtydog- 9 replies
- 1.3k views
I struggled today with a rear window on a Nissan Nivara Pick-Up. This a a vehicle I have not done before and being new to the tinting game, I struggled. The window did'nt need any shrinking but I struggled becaues when I cut the film to the edge of the window seal, when I came to reinstall the film with the reverse roll method, I found that the film was slightly to large. The inside window seal is slightly smaller than the outside. Do any of you guys ever cut the film on the inside of the glass rather than the outside. Also, does anybody have any tips regarding cutting around heated rear window connectors?? Thanks Naughtydog Guess I'll have to keep practising. Ho…

I'd like to tint my 04 WRX wagon but have never done it so I'm looking for an pro installer. I've done some research so I'm hoping some of you could offer a few words of wisdom or verify some of answers I've found... 1. How many of you have a metallic-based tint as opposed to plastic? I've heard that metallic is better in quality and worth the cost difference but also that it could interfere with radar detectors. 2. I'll be moving to Wisconsin where the tinting % is different b/w the front doors (50%) and rear doors (35%). Wouldn't this look like crap? I'd think that 50% is pretty light so would you take the chance on a tint ticket and match the doors? 3. I was advis…
