FRIDAY, I STARTED A 91 FIREBIRD BACK WINDOW IN ONE PIECE. ONE SIDE DID FINE, WHEN I GOT TO THE OTHER SIDE, IT WOULD POP UP AND WOULDN'T STAY DOWN WHILE TRYING TO HEAT IT. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF A ONE PIECE CAN BE DONE? OR DO YOU HAVE ANY POINTERS TO GET THE JOB DONE. I REALLY NEED YOUR OUTPUT ON THIS ONE, BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER IS COMING BACK MONDAY. THANKS

As the title says, I am having some issues with the BG on this thing... For starters, the top of the window does not have a Matrix but THICK defroster lines with come down probably a good 6 inches and the tint does NOT want to stick at all...Am I better off hang drying the tint in that area and then pushing it up, (tried this and did not seem to work), apply glue, or just cut that area off and apply vinyl over the lines? At this point, thinking about going the vinyl route. Now, the rest of the problems... After I make my H pattern, I start shrinking the bottom a 1/4 at a time and start from the middle and work my way to the sides...But once I am about half way to the b…

these cars are horrible about having scratches on the outside of the rollups on these cars, even new ones have them, so beware and dont let a customer finger you for these scratches, just because they did not see them before the film was put on, the outer seals get dirt in them and the glass scratches very easy when the window is rolled up and down.

Haven't done one of these yet. Back glass looks similar to the Belair we did a couple months ago, maybe a little easier. On the belair we had problems with the film pulling off the glass after install on the sides of the window because of the extreme curve, is that something we should worry about on the Firebird? Any tips would be awesome!!

Any tips on getting the rear window to come out really nicely? I'm assuming I'll need to leave a small gap around the edges. What kind of tape/black border could I cover the gap with? Thanks.

Ok folks, I have read probably 10 other threads on this glass, Does anyone happen to have a video on there shrinking method on the rear glass? I tried a "U" tack pattern like when I do vettes and just could not pull it off.... Any help is appreciated, because I don't want anymore hairs turning grey over this project... hahah Ryker you sound like you have a great method but I cannot get the 6x12 bubble to form on the dovetail of this rear glass.

finally got it off, it was one large peice up until 2 very large relief cuts at least a foot long and the lined matirx was a seperate piece. Heres the beginning of my one piece reinstall Smooth on the outside Smooth on the inside You can see where you have to cut for the defrosters on this back glass...they are steelbrainded about a 1/4 thick. I added a seperate strip of film to the exposed area and it came out super clean. All done

I have my first Trans Am back glass on Monday. I will be doing an R&R just on the back glass because the Dot Matrix looks bad. I have a few questions. Do any of you see a problem with applying Dotrix on the back glass? I know there is a lot of info on how to shrink the back glass but sometimes it's too much info. I dry-shrink with bounce dryer sheets. Can you please explain the best way to shrink? Thanks.

How are you guys shrinking the bottom of the back window? I just did one today and I couldn't get it to lay flat when I was shrinking that bottom curve. It went on the window, but not before a lot of tension spreading so I definitely could have done a better job on the shrink. Kept my anchor low so maybe that was part of it, not too sure.

Tinted my first G8 today. I have some tips for the panel pullers and some questions for next time. The door panels have a T27 screw by the door handle, hidden phillips screws under the armrest and more phillips on the bottom of the panel. The rest of the panel pops off. My question is how is everyone tinting the back glass? Do you Tint over the dots on the top or tint up to the bottom of them? I tinted over them, and so far it looks pretty good as long as it stays like it is. Has anyone tinted behind the third brake light at the top of the glass? I started too and then just cut it out. It has a trim line there already so you don't see any film edges.

The subject. With Soap film/ Dryer Sheet... whatever you prefer, on the bg, make your tack mark across the middle to lower section of the window. With your film laying across the bg with it tacked in the middle it will look like this. Moving as many of your fingers to the top as you can, shrink the top portion of the window. With the top portion shrunk, you are left with this at the bottom. Lift the tint and spray the window down, smooth out the middle section from top to bottom. Once the middle is smoothed out, lift the sides and smooth the bottom part of the bg out using your hand push around the side and towards the top. You should be able to smooth…

So yesterday I tinted a 09 Vibe, piece of cake car. On the back glass, I bent the wiper assembly at its designed point to pull back off the glass in order to slide tint under and cut to size etc...I noticed that it was VERY tight so I only pulled it off the glass MAYBE an inch if that. Finish tinting car and all is good. Today he calls me and says his rear wiper fell right off the glass, not just the blade but the part that it attaches to. I told him to bring it by to take a look at it tomorrow. Is there a trick to these or is it actually broke? He just picked up the car less than 2 weeks ago from a dealer so I wonder if I am the one who is going to get stuck with this?

just tintinted my first one. I had seen some people had issues with the third brake light. if you pull on the top edge where it meets the head liner. it will pop down and give you about 3 inches to get behind it. I was going to take it all the way of , but there was plenty of room just pulling it down. it was a little scary at first, but it pop off like a door panel. and pop right back on when I was finished.

Hey guys I know starting out I always feared this window and heard it was one of the hardest windows to do. Camaro/Trans am back glass. Well, I did one the other day back window in one piece. guy told me he had shops say its IMPOSSIBLE to do in one piece and another shop quote him 300 just for the back window and 2 sides. First time doing the back glass of one of those, and it came out flawless. Just wanted to shed some light on anyone who is scared of this back window, it really isnt bad just take your time, anchor high and ignore the top to start. work on the bottom corner fingers and push them towards the center and take your hard card and push very carefully all t…

Hey guys: I have a customer who wants his back glass on his 99 Pontiac Trans Am done. I have two questions. One is, he wants me to do it off the car and at his house. I'm not sure what he has the window on but I can't do it if it's on the ground, what would you recommend I do about this. My other question is, should I sand it with 000 steel wool and hope it sticks or vinyl the top? Thanks. -Kyle

So about a week ago I tinted a 06 Grand Prix, when I put the back window on the film would NOT stick for the life of me in little spots along the defrost line, there is no dust or contamination in these spots and usually I Just turn on the defroster and it dries them right up, except his defroster didnt work. So I told him after 20 minutes of trying to push them out and them popping up, to just bring the car back in a week once it dried up and I'd mess with it some more. Well, car is back at my shop I tried heating them up from the outside and pushing them out and they stay down and pop right back up, he said it doesnt bother him but it really bothers me. I've never se…

For pulling the panels, Screw behind the door handle, Pop up window switch ( screw behind there ) Pop out light that isnt a light at bottom left ( screw behind ) and than screw in the middle of panel nothing hiding that one just in plain sight. Give a good hank on the panel from bottom. You can remove just the one behind the door handle and the one in the middle and pop out the top of the panel only but I didn't take a chance cause it was so tight and really hard to snap off panel with all the clips that car has. Than the gasket is not even connected to the panel and pull out. Just posting for anyone just in case down the road someone needs help. Love it when somethi…

This window sucked azz. I haven't done many convertibles, they all look like a pain though. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for making this window look good and not like a complete piece of shiat when I'm done. I cut that thing 5 times to get the defrost cutouts come close to my expectations, but the clean and the lay was less than perfect, especially for a show car which is what he wants to do with it. Rollups and windshield were cake! -FB

Hey guys, I'm having this problem with my 97 grand prix, I'm trying to put 20% Global QDP on my rear window, but as soon as I get to the top left and right curves (towards the edge) the film doesn't want to go anywhere. I've tried using Soap, Dryer Sheets (eek!), and wet shrinking. Nothing has worked, I don't know if it is just a matter of technique or just a PITA window? Thanks, Nick

Just finished tinting a 2009 Vibe. Holy Chit. It's only February of 2008 and they have already released the new model. Let me tell ya. This is a $ making car when it comes to tint. You can slam the tint on in no time. The back glass. has no shock tower buttons or rear wiper motor to worry about with very little heating involved. Way To Go Pontiac, you've finally done something right.
