It was the first 2010 VW golf gti 4 door hatchback I ever did. I cut the quarter windows alittle too big so I decided to trim the rubbers. BIG FREAKING MISTAKE. The dot matrix paint they use on the windows is very thin and I scratched the paint off the windows. The window was not scratched but the paint came off in a line all around the window. List price for each window was $99 bucks I'll find out the wholesale price tomorrow. Too top it off there is a very small scratch on the other quarter glass matrix.. I'm now replacing two quarter windows on a brand spanking new car. This is the first time in 5 years I've been tinting that I did damage to a car I had to pay for. BEW…

Just did one, not too bad. I don’t pull panels so front of front doors moulding is deep, but surprisingly loose so not so bad. One weird thing is the top rear gasket at the top is rounded and big so be careful not to cut it when you cut the tint outside to measure, will make sense when you see it. Rear hatch trim comes apart in similar way as previous generations I pull side trim. Of note there are wires attached to the rear glass for Antenaes that would be easy to rip off if you smack them with a squeegee. I attached pics.

Very Easy car. It is similar to a Passat, but you don't need a screwdriver or need to remove any trim panels as the tops pop up and out of the seals like other VWs. Only thing to watch out for is the panels are clad, like a new F150, so need to be careful you don't pull the cladding off the panel. It feels like they are held on by weak plastic welds.

I’m a rookie and have been doing random tint on my cars over the years. I bought a roll of Avery @ 35% to learn more. I was marginally successful on a sprinter front doors and fixed vent glass. Better success on an e30 Bmw sides. I have not attempted that back glass yet. None of these really requires shrinking. I guess if I can do this one all the others will be easy. I tried a couple of attempts already using the bar soap rub to start. Attached using the H pattern. Is it more of a stretch the middle than shrink the top and bottom? If you could share what helped you get it I would appreciate it. Maybe that ‘Ah ha’ moment? …

so i had 2 golf in the same week. a lot easier then the older golf. the only issues i ran into was trying to attempt tinting the two front quarter windows. there is no way to get a tool in there to push water and bubbles out. so my question is has anyone try to remove the quarters out to tint them?

No screws to remove just peel back panel use pick remove seal. Cut front 1/8” long rear a little long it tucks under soft rubber after taping rear rubber. Small opera has a little blackout.

I recently acquired a 2000 GTI and there it a rain sensor behind the rear view mirror which when it rains the windshield washers come on. Does putting a layer of film between the two effect the functionality of it? I want the rain sensor more then tint, but I also want the heat rejection on the windshield. Thx

I'd like to get some feed back. its been about a year since I did one of these, but I don't remember having any issues shrinking it. Definitely not as hard as the older model. Am I remembering this accurately? ( I did quite a few of the older ones in 1 piece also) they were an (SOB). Frameless doors also right?

The 2015 GTI has front quarter windows. They are nearly impossible to access. The doors are looser on the sides than the previous models, but the gaskets are wider as well, so more film to have to tuck to the back. Back window has less curve, but the trim on the inside seems to be tighter. Also, there is less room on the top near the spoiler, and the spoiler comes down onto the rear window on the sides, leaving less room on the sides. All in all its not too bad, except for the front quarters. Who's stupid idea was that ? And how is the customer supposed to even clean it ? LOL

Panels have to be removed if you want to pull the seal. Two 30 torx head under the pull handle and 2 t20 on the very bottom of the panel. I shrank the rear quarter windows to ease installation. Make sure to cut the rears tight as the rubber molding is close to the matrix.

Hi. I'm reletivly new to the world of tinting and may have bitten off more than I can chew. I'm really struggling to shrink a rear screen on a mk 5 golf. I'm dry shrinking with baby powder and just can't get the corners without creasing. I've tried working from the middle out. Then from the outside in and only secured in the middle with the ends free. Any tips would be really helpful as I'm not one for giving up.

Just got into a shouting match with the rear plastic tray of a 2017 Jetta. Does anyone know how to take it off? That third break light is annoying because the tray covers it and is one piece. Bulldozer and Titan are not doing the best job getting back there to lay down film either. Any help, especially detailed lol, would be appreciated. -Paul

Rear window looks pretty crammed in around those panels. I dont pull panels often but this one looks worth pulling. Anyone know where to start to get the panels off the rear hatch?

Hi All, just wondering what others are doing with the front quarters on the new Golf? I haven't had the chance to get one in and try pulling apart the front "A Pillar" cover to see if that helps. Cheers

i'm really starting to like the new VWs. they're making 'em much easier to work on. for those who aren't skuuured to do anything with door panels these things are cake. you can see the silver trim piece on the panel here. well that trim piece pops right off using a small tack puller and behind it towards the back of the door is a hex bolt. remove it. then the top of the panel pops right back and the gasket pulls right out. i used to cringe everytime i heard the word Jetta. if it's just the new ones that come in then i could tint 'em all day long. Hi guys, we had one booked in yesterday and I seen there is a thread in the VW section about removing them so thought Id follow the instructions and take some pics along the way for anyone else who has to do one in the future. So here we go. First thing is remove the panel and drop the door glass right down then pull the rubber strip out of the channel. Then unbolt the two 10mm bolts in the door Next slide the channel down Next, pull away the rubber window surround which will make it easier to remove the glass. Finally pull the rubber with the glass in away from the door, this gives you enough give to get the glass out. Repeat in reverse to put back togeth…

I know, easy car.. they really are... except one thing, I continue to have trouble with every single back glass when getting the water squeegeed out from behind the third brake light. I don't remove the back decklid.. and I'm am having a single hell of a time squeegeeing out the water behind the third break light, I hate cutting them out... I also hate trying to squeegee them out, my bulldozer always ends up pulling the tint back up and destroying the tint, and my titan isn't strong enough to pull the water out leaving way to much water, everyone I do, I end up fighting with the water behind the brake light. what tools are you guys using for those who don't cut ou…
