My first beetle

Hey everyone - havent been around in awhile. Things are going pretty good, but I have my first 07 beetle coming up. I feel fairly confident about the back glass but I knew this time was going to come sooner or later. My only questions are 1. will a 30" roll cover the back glass 2. I use Suntek Carbon....anything specific I need to think about that differs from the back glass of other cars? Oh and I use the mdog soap method (which rocks). Thanks again and before anyone yells...I read through as many of the other posts about this car as I could.

Not nice to do....almost a mini new 2008 Golf in disguise. Same troublesome rear screen. Tried Suntek which is suppose to be tinter friendly but the car ate it up and spit it out trying to do a one piecer. Madico film did the same. In the end just invisibily seamed it and be done with it. Devil

ALOHA!!! Gonna pop my first Beetle this week friday !!! Im super nervous...yet excited!!!... I've been reading a lot of what you guys have been writing and haven't read much about ATR film from LLUMAR ...( which I use) ... My first question is...Do you recommend going with a different film? I do both wet and dry shrink with this film and havent had too much trouble.... My second question, Is it that much harder to take the windows out vrs. just pulling back the panels.. or more specifically how do you take out the windows ?....thanks in advance for your help.....

I have a VW Toureg to do next week, for the tuckers and sliders out there, whats the crack with this one. I have done a few Porsche Cayenne's and pulled ouit the rub rail, a bit messy as the thing can end up like a banana if your not careful. Can you just feed the film in by pulling the rubber back?/ I welcome the heads-up Naughty

pop these covers off to expose the 13mm bolts, remove all 3. stick a screwdriver like this and pry up to pop the 3 hidden clips, one in the middle and one on each end. dont forget to unplut the 3rd brakelight. the deck will slide out when you pull it towards yourself

Problem with Tinted Windows on VW Eos
by Guest PanEuropean- 4 replies
- 5.5k views
An interesting problem was reported arising from windows on a 2007 Volkswagen Eos (a convertible) that were tinted with film that was reflective on the inside surface. It seems that the owner left the top down and the windows up, and sunlight reflecting from the concave inside surface of the glass then burned a big hole in the plastic trim on the door. There are more details (and pictures) documenting this problem at this post in the VW Vortex Eos forum: Tint on Eos. It might be something for you guys (tinting professionals) to think about - maybe you need to make sure you use a film that is not reflective on the inside surface, or perhaps maybe you need to tell the o…

To those of you who can 1 piece the beetle, and do each window without screwing it up... I salute you. I just spent 8 hours working on my first one and let me tell you... I DID NOT CHARGE ENOUGH!!!! . for all my frustration! I went through nearly 50' of Carbon 35. I'm going to begin pricing that car to get people to go else where!! but hey, my 2 piece back window turned out great anyways. I just wanted to say that that car was a PITA, and I am impresed by those who have to put up with multiple cars such as that.

Jetta 1/4 window replacement. 1 2
by Guest klufkee- 11 replies

Hey, I hosed this one for sure. Dude's car is a Jetta, not the newest kind but the ones right before them. I was cleaning up the install when I saw the BIGGEST freakin' scratch I've ever seen on the 1/4 glass in the rear door. (Pass side.) It's on the outside of the car and it's REALLY noticable. You can see it from 10 feet away easy. I told the guy I would fix it since I did the damage. (Not really sure how I did it but I know it wasn't there before because I would have seen it when doing the walk-around with him.) He's pretty cool about it because I was upfront with him and told him I would repair ASAP. I got a new 1/4 window from my buddy at our local salvage yard, (G…

air bubbles on new tint job
by Guest tdidude- 4 replies

HI Everyone, I just picked up a new jetta TDI from the dealer and I had them tint the windows. I noticed now ( 3 days later), that there are a few white dots on side windows which I guess are from dirt, and I think I am willing to live with those. However on the rear window there are 2 air bubbles abour a 1/2inch in length and about 1/4 inch in width. if I press on them with my finger gently from the side, it gets smaller but harder. they are located about 4-6 inches from top left corner and are in between two defrost lines. Question is : After reading so much about "dont remove a tint, its a lot of trouble" I am wondering if I shouldnt just pin it with a sew…

I ahve in my shop an old VW beetle...I have taken the rear and side windows out to tint them. Now, the sides are done - but the back glasss has me beat. I just can't seem to do it in one piece. I have tried with powder twice and then the soap method. It seemed to lay down better with the soap but the top corners just seem impossible. . I have tried with suntek dyed film and Llumar ATR... I have tried pulling the film whilst shrinking, all the tricks I know but I still end up either over shrinking it or with fingers that will never go down. I dont know if many of you have done these in one piece but I seem to be able to do most back glass's, I did a civic hatch this…

As a few of those on the board already know...Ive been wanting to get my hands on a New Beetle to shrink that back glass. Well my popz does custom auto-body and on occasion collision work. Well, He had a Beetle in so I cut a nice big peice of HP-20, grabbed a dryer-sheet and heat gun and went out there. The film rolled out just as I had imagined it would, and did not look to bad. I set my horizontal in the middle and went at it. Everything went smooth until the last 4" on top, and the last 4" on bottom!! It was finger after finger after finger!!!!! None the less I burned a lil spot and creased a lil spot. Whats the trick to this??? I MAY go back this …
