I never believed in the old 5 year cracking and crazing part of flat glass film warranties until I saw this occur.

Lifting, demetalising, peeling yes but this no. :evilgrin

It is 4 ply security reflective silver 20 about 13 years old and this started going bad like this about 5 years ago.

Odd thing about it is that the silver coating is the part we see in the photo as being cracked and not the clear security. :please

I wonder if I could say it was forked lightning? :lol6

No, never. Very interesting. As I doubt that the metal layer shrinks or the PET expands, the only explanation would be a combination of deteriation of the film and expanding glass. Since winter is ahead (if you can call that winter) check if you will see a different appearance of that window.

Can't pay that Kohler.

Reason being that my factory has the same film installed next door a bit older than that (same Manufacturer) and it has not worn at all. Work that out. :coffee

So it has to be a manufacturing quality problem.

Below that photographed film was another pane only not as tall and it too suffered the same deal.

Just looks like film gone bad. Plain and simple.

Installed 13 years ago, probably had a 5 year warranty on it. Nobody would be on the hook for that one, except for the owner.

Sell them on replacing the film, charge for removal and replacement, and call it a day. $$$$$
