Flatglasser needs advice from car dudes

I need advice. I have owned a flatglass dealership for 5 years. Now for some reason I have the urge to add the car side to my business.

My question involves road frontage. I know the value of great road frontage and drive in customers, but is it a must. Where is your shop? Road frontage next to the mall? Self storage unit hidden around back? Nice shop behind other buildings on high volume road?

Thanks

We have a repair shop on the road front, within 2 miles of almost every car dealer in town, (we call it thieves row).

The Tint/ Trim Shop is around back of that, although we have a sign at the road for each business, both of are incorporated together. Also, we sell cars up front. We have a fair amount of "drive in traffic"

most of our tint jobs are coming from dealers we've had for years in other services or word of mouth.

The most popular and longest standing tint shop in our town is off the beaten path, so to speak, and he does very well on reputation alone.

Location helps, but reputation counts more. If you have room where you are and you have an established reputation, they will come to you, or you can offer pickup and delivery, but I suggest charging if you do.

:lol6

I've been thinking of trying my hand at flat glass, what can you suggest? :lol2

We're right on a corner of Spokane's 2nd busiest street. We're almost always booked out a week if not more. The walk-in customers never like the idea that they have to wait a week to get their cars tinted. Oh well...some things are worth waiting for. :lol2

Location helps, but reputation counts more.

:lol6 the real reason we're booked out so far is because of the worked turned out by our stores. And that type of work has been turned out for over 20 years.

E,

I would stay with flat unless you are losing market share. For some reason? :bs What reason? Sounds a little like shooting off the hip without doing thorough reasearch.

In auto, your competitor knows exactly where you are and what volume you are doing, in flat he doesn't have a clue.

we are a new shop on the back way to mall. mall is less than a mall away and nothing is developed between us. that fact that we are on the corner and trafic muststop is a great plus over our other locatoin where we are on a busy street with trafic going by at 50mph.

My thouhgts. I would stay with comm. IMO

I also struggled with this decision, then I bought this trailer and have not looked back.

Paid for itself in 4 hours on the first Satuarday I put it out.

And if your local laws prohibit this leave the tow vehicle attached a the local shopping centre, but dont tell the wife your going there as it gets expensive. :hmmm
